LOKAR. makes one very similar P/N ACA-1800. I just ordered one from summit last friday. Jegs has the LOKAR one also. I am pretty sure that the rod will need one bend in it. Those displays that show the linkage have the steering column much closer to the trans. I think our trucks the column is farther away, and may cause some binding in the heim joint at the trans end of the linkage. I'll have the kit this week and know more then.

Here's LOKAR's version. Also $39.95.

Did you buy the short or the long version? I'm thinking that we will probably need the long version, and I agree with you...it will need some bending to fit.

Be sure and let me know how it works for you! We are close to being ready to swap out our I6/3-speed for a 350/700R4. There are a lot of pieces to this puzzle and this is an important one!

71Chev,
I'd also like to know how it works for you. I really don't want to fork over a $100 for the cable version. Keep us updated.
Thanks

The lokar version only has one length. The rod is 21" and with the heim joints it is suppose to reach 24" end to end. That will be pretty close to the length needed. Especially with one bend in it for sure. (LOKAR didn't return my email, asking for their input on the ACA-1800 in a 67-72 truck).

I have shifted the cable version on a mock up column and trans. Shifts sweet. I didn't want to spend the $100. Plus even with a bend in the rod, I like the simple straight forward rod set up.

I'll have it tomorrow. Not sure if I will have time to install it before the weekend comes though. If anyone is wondering. I am replacing the stock shift linkage with this kit, to eliminate the sloppiness and noise of the stock shift linkage. I will post again after the install.

I put the lokar one in the suburban that I had. It did seem to bind in park. A bend might have helped but not sure if it would of still worked or not. I dont really know. Im just bored and felt like posting.

The Kugel linkage I've used in many cars over the years. They work great. You would need the longer version for your truck.good luck.

Lokar shifter

I put the lokar shifter rod set up on mine and had to bend the rod to get it to work right. The arm on the tranny is pretty much horizontal, I believe.

I run V8 in the forward position. I love it. No more clunking and looseness.

"No more clunking and looseness." Just what I wanted to hear.

Can you get a picture of yours? Was it just one bend closer to the trans end of the rod?

I will try to get you a pic soon. I think it is 1 bend close to the tranny.

My digi cam is not working well. I will borrow one frm a bud.

I got the kit yesterday. The instructions say you can bend the rod if needed.
It's a nice kit. I didn't have time last night to finish the install but it won't take long tonight. I just had put one bend in the rod near the trans end to eliminate the binding when in park. Just takes a little trial and error to get the position of the arm on the trans right for our trucks. LOKAR say to start with it in the 8 o'clock position. It ended up closer to 9 o'clock. I didn't have to cut the stainless rod down at all, I used it with the shortest length possible without cutting the rod. Rod measures 20.5", max length with ends is about 24.5". I'll get the length I ended up at tonight and also post a pic of the rod with the bend in it. So far with everything loosely bolted together I really like how it shifts.
At the stopping point last night, I am unable to get it all adjusted so that the indicator on the column lines up perfectly with the indicator lens in the respective gears. Park/R/N/D are right on the money. When in 2nd gear the indicator isn't right in front L2. In 1st the indicator is a little off of L1. I don't think it will get any better than that.
Any of you other guys have a problem getting the indicator lined up respectively with the gears?
While figuring out how the position of the stud in the billet arm effects it all, I found you can make the trans hit all the gears from Park to 1st, but the column shift arm only moves a few inches.(less shift arm throw gets from park to 1st much quicker). Ofcourse that throws the column indicator completely off. I think when the trans was in 1st, the indicator was on R. Not sure if anyone would want to drive that way, just thought I'd throw that in.

Les,

I'm pretty sure you can do fine adjustment by loosening the two screws and moving the indicator from side to side a hair. If your total length of movement is sufficient, maybe this would work to fine tune it?

I bought the longer one from Kugel, easy to install and no binding.

I like the heim joints better on the Lokar kit. And ya get that nice billet arm.

Every thing fell into place fine when is was all tightened up. Indicator is lined up as well as it was before. It wasn't bad to install. I'm happy with it, it did what I wanted it to.
I did forget to measure the total length end to end.
Here's the bend.
