Underhood treatment.
How do you fellows treat the underhood? Insulation, plain paint, bed liner, let-er look bad?

You talking about the bottomside of the hood?..if you are what I did was paint mine and put in a new ebay hood insulating pad..

I painted the entire sheet metal under the hood, including the hood underside, with gloss black paint from Home Depot ($1 per rattle can.) It looks ok to me, except on one inner fender where a gust of wind blew dirt in that location when the paint was still wet.
I got underhood fiberglass insulation pad from LMC and was able to reuse the original plastic push pins. I would not use that again LMC pad again. I would use any of the better aftermarket insulating materials and use that, like heat resistant hood insulation. That aftermarket insulation is pricey, but I don't think the LMC stuff does any good, at least is does not deaden the engine noise in my experience. |

Heres my 82 . This came from the dealership . It comes as one big sheet . You will have to trim it to fit . The clips also come from them and are in the factory locations . I made a cardboard pattern to trim by . Heres a couple pictures .

Thanks, last time I dropped by the Chevy dealer the parts "kid" just stared at me, an 81? My truck was older than he was, he didn't even know that Chevy had built an inline 6 cylinder. I'll try em again. I already have the plastic push pins, found a good source too. Could you tell the difference when you put in the insulation?

I had seen some aftermarket stuff and was not impressed and is why I got the dealer stuff . I dont think the gm stuff was year specific . It was just a generic sheet that gm offers to trim and fit . Also it was not folded like you would get aftermarket . If you fold this kind of stuff it will create a permanent seam in it . It is in a large box because it is not folded . I did like the quality better . Also it had some rigidness to it .

It comes with heat insulation you put in all the indentations on the bottom of the hood before you put the ABS panel on. |
