What and why is a slant-nose?
I always see the term, but I don't know what years and models it applies to, or why. I've guessed just from context it might mean 67-68s, but really have no idea. And they don't seem extra slanty or anything to me.
Could someone clarify for me? A picture comparison would be ideal... I figure if I'm willing to admit I don't know, maybe others will benefit from my naive question as well.

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
67-68's. They literally slant back while 69-72 are pretty much straight up. The 67/68 hoods are actually longer as well as they hang over the grill as part of the nose where the 69-72's tuck behind the grill.

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
I always liked this drawing by Thom Taylor that shows the key nose differences between the 67-72 years. Related to this, one thing I was always curious about was the designers rationale for the changes they made to the nose, especially going from the slant nose to the 69-72 nose. I always guessed that it was to make the truck look more utilitarian, or that it was an early indication of the direction in style that the trucks would take with the more squared off generation to follow.

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
I like the 67-68 most then the 69-70 and not really a fan of the 71-72.

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
I like 'em all. C'mon boys, why be so picky? We have 6 years of trucks here, all relatively the same style and they all look better than anything built since... in almost 40 years!! I guess if you prefer blondes you would kick a knock dead gorgeous brunette outta bed for eatin' crackers

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
I'm partial to slant noses since I own a 68. I never got a good vibe for the 71/72's, don't care for the egg crate grille. 69/70's are okay.

I'm a 71/72 Chevy and any 67-72 GMC guy but they are all good looking trucks.

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
I think the slanted hoods are more attractive but I no longer wish to change my 1972 over to that.

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
That Thom Taylor drawing would make a kick ass T- shirt. It would educate my friends on why my 68 is so badass. I wil take a slant nose over disc brakes any day. But seriously, I need that on a shirt.

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
To me the slant nose looks more elegant, but the '69-'72 front ends look more aggressive. The first thing that got me into these trucks was the look of the '67 '68 grille, but I grew to like the '71 '72 trucks more. They all look great to me!

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
I'm so enamored with my "Slant nose" 68 I had T shirts made of a caricature pic a fella did for me. He's a retired graphic artist and I sold him my last rod, a 49 Ford F1 pickup.

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
69-70 are the best. Big bowtie up on the hood where it should be

Re: What and why is a slant-nose?
I do believe the drawing is incorrect (71-72 bumper on the 69 and 70 pic) and a 71 grille surround has the black stripe perimeter, 72 does not (they're not identical). To this day, you can't buy a repop correct 70 grille or a correct 71 surround - and this can add to the confusion as 69 repops are usually listed as 69-70 and 72 grille surrounds are listed as 71-72.

Jocko, No the art work is of my 68, sent him the picture you see in the reply I posted. 68 split grille opening with small bow tie and park lamps up in the lower grille opening.

Picky over a drawing and y'all didn't even notice I posted a pic of a 67/68 hood stuffed behind a 69-72 grill? :p
