What rearend fits? 1969 longhorn

So I've got a 69' longhorn with a worn out eaton ho52 with 4:10's (another reason to switch, drive ability). Due to the fact that all the parts are more expensive and the brakes are an odd size.. I have justified the need to swap out the whole meal deal. I don't want the eaton so I don't want to hear people say swap to the 14 bolt brakes to solve the odd size issue. Not going too. I want it out. Preferably I would like a 14 bolt ff(cost is low and parts are easily obtained and brakes are more common), I have the ability to get one for 300 bucks, 3:73's from what I am told. It would need a basic overhaul i.e. Seals and brakes. However from my understanding it won't bolt right in. Is there any rearendeds that do bolt right in? Not worried about wms-wms width but I want to do as little modification as possible, rather not bug the perches and shock brackets. If I have to I will.. But I don't really wanna lol thanks In advance!

My 72 Longhorn came with Dana 60 and 3.54 gearing, I,d imagine it would swap over if you could find one. I could get you measurements if it helps.

If you can find one, a Dana 60 out of a similar year pickup will swap in.

What makes you think it's wore out? I'd love a 4;10 to replace my 5:13 gears.

It's got like 250xxx miles on it according to the previous owner. I had to speedy sleeve the yoke when I replaced the seal... Which leaks again. And I can't find drums anywhere so I had to reuse my out of spec drums... Not cool.

Is a Dana 60 axle comparable to the eaton? I mean what am I losing if I put in a Dana 60.. What am I gaining?(besides the obvious)

The dana 60 axles are just more popular, they are still made today, and parts are much easier to find. Both are very strong. A dana 60 from a c20 that has the same springs (coil or leaf) should swap in without too much trouble.

I purchased new drums for my C-20 several years ago. I just checked O'Reilly's site and brake drums are still available for the Eaton.

The Dana 60 is a good choice, but they are a little harder to find. They are a bolt in proposition, but you need to have the track bar for the Dana (if your using the coil spring suspension), as it is shorter that the one used for an Eaton. The coil spring Dana 60 had a boss cast into the housing for the track bar.

The H052 Eaton is nearly as strong as the 14 bolt (they even share some parts) and is stronger than the Dana. If you can find a HO72 Eaton, it may be even stronger than even the 14 bolt as it has a load bolt. The H072 will bolt directly into the H052 Housing (I am running one now). As far as your leakage, if you can find a third member from a lower mileage vehicle, the swap out is very easy.

C/20 rear ends will not directly bolt up as Longhorns have a C/30 chassis. for direct bolt up you will need a rear end that came out of a 67-72 C/30. Spring perches and shock mounts are different.

That's not true. I've taken an HO52 from a 1970 K20 and put it under a 69 Longhorn. I've also taken a leaf spring C20 rear end and put it under a 71 Longhorn. Now, if you had a cab and chassis truck that uses different leaf springs, that might be true. But a 67-72 leaf spring pick up rear end should bolt in. The Longhorns are 1 ton or C30 frames. But the width of the frame is not any different than a C20 frame.

I will tell what I know....no more/no less ! My longhorn, has a 40-40 1/8 " pin to the springs....that should be the same on a 4wd truck? you can use a 14 bolt (73up), but you will have to cut the pads, and move them, as the spring perches put the centers differently I have a 12 bolt under my truck...different story.....yes a direct weld in swap!
