Can I replace my 283 with 366

Came across a 366 tall block Chevy engine for $500 but wasnt sure if it would bolt up to the bell housing in my 62 that the 283 is on so I can get it back on the road any suggestions or info much appreciated

Running 350 at a local junk yard not rebuilt that's been sitting for who knows how long will cost me $7-800 I need a work truck now

If you are looking for a QUICK engine replacement I wont NOT go with the 366 ....I see a lot of time consuming problems oil pan, lower Rad hose,brackets,exhaust,flywheel? ECT.ECT.ECT.

Yes it will bolt up to the bellhousing, but there are other issues that will make the swap more difficult than just finding another small block. Just a couple of the issues will be firewall clearance and oil pan clearance.

If your willing to do some mods I say heck yeah to doing a 366. Beats having the same engine as everyone else to me. But if your wanting a super quick replacement than any sbc will do.
