Front end bottoming out. Fixed
I lowered my truck with mcgaughtys drop kit. 2.5" spindle and 2 inch spring in the front. Originally I had 235/75/15 tires and the thing would bottom out and smash the tires into the inner fender well over the slightest bump. I then stretched out the inner fender wells giving me more clearance and the bottoming was less, but still would. So I got some smaller tires, 235/70/15 and still bottomed. The springs from mcgaughty lowered me truck more than 2" like states which is cool but caused driving problems. So was looking around and decided to give these a try. I know a lot of people who use them in the rear, but I bought a set for the front of a stock c10. Install was easy. Immediately I noticed that the bag was the same length as the springs free length. Installed it anyway and aired it up to 20psi and set it the truck on the ground. It basically kept the coil springs from sagging at all, so I put only 10psi is then the truck settled and was about 1.5"-2" higher than how it was originally with no helper bag. Test drove it and the truck handled like a dream! No more soggy front end, I don't think I could get it to bottom out of I tried. I'd like my ride hight back to how it was with no helper bag so I called the company and they hooked me up with a bag same dimension just 1.75" inches shorter. I ordered them today so I will post back when I get them installed. I think it will be perfect.
Sorry about the long post, I just haven't seen anyone with a lowered truck use this type of air spring to help with ride and bottoming out. Anyone else use these for the same application as me? |

I have these (Airlift brand) on the back of my '11 Suburban (coils on rear) and love them. They make towing a dream!

I've had the air lifts for years in the rear. The fronts are just a few years old.
My signature has the part number for the rears.
