Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
I have a dually. The hub extension bolts onto the hat of the rotor. Does that not matter? I haven't had the hub assembly apart but I assumed the slip on option wasn't an option for me. If I'm wrong that would be great.

Dually... Yeah you make a good point. However, it could still work for you. Just would require someone trying to do it and see if there is enough of the hub left to keep the dually adapter hubcentric. It would work just like newer dually axles with slip on rotors basically. Instead of the adapter bolting to hub/touch the face of the hub it would touch the face of the rotor, the hat thickness is around .25 " or so I believe so maybe longer bolts. It really just depends on if the adapter can stay hubcentric or not. If I had an axle I could tell you once I mock it up. I will post as much detailed pics as possible so you can kind of see how it is done and get a feel of if it is possible for you or not.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
Well maybe I'll pioneer it for the good of the cause. I will need to at the very least have the stock rotors turned this winter. The right one is starting to get some decent grooves. I'll try and remember to take some pictures and some measurements when I tear it down.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
So how do I find the part number for the Ujoint in the half shafts in the Dana 60? All I see are Ujoints for driveshafts. I want to make sure I get the correct ones.
Edit: Wait.. This one? https://www.amazon.com/Moog-374-Univ...ype=automotive Edit 2 : Spicer SPL55-3X seems to be the right part number and the more universally accepted as the better ujoint.. Not cheap though!

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
Got 2 out of 4 of my rotors in. The top one is from a 04 2500HD rear (AAM 10.5), 13" rotor. The bottom is from a 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 front, 14.125" rotor (It says it weighs 40lbs and I believe it!)

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
I had all 4 hubs turned down to 8". Rotors slipped right on over!
One thing I also learned is that GM took the front calipers off of 1500 trucks and put them on the rear axle, and I just happen to have some from my original donor for my LS swap. So saved me some $ there, just need to clean them up! But now I have my calipers & brackets for the rear. I also now know how far to space out the rear so getting even closer! I hope my front adapter brackets don't take too long to show up today.

In one pic in the pirate thread it shows the spacing being that far off. But I didn't read the words that coincide with the pics lol.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
It also seems like on the complete pics that he has more hub sticking past the rotor than you do. Do you maybe need to start with hubs from a slide on drum axle?

I'm pretty sure he had the non slip off drums but that could be true!! Ugh crap. How to find out? I don't have that other style hub.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
I couldn't swap those other style hubs on my 14 bolt could I? They aren't compatible with the non slip on style or am I wrong?

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
Not to get off topic but i couldn't help but notice the pitch of your roof. It's hard to tell from the pics but thats an awfully low pitch for shingles. 2.5" of rise per 12" of run is the minimum for shingles. It looks like you did a good job of installing the new shingles but wind and rain might find their way under them. Just my 2 cents.
BTW, the truck looks great, i'd love to convert my C30 some day. Quote:

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
Yeah that's why I had to redo it. I hate that addition, if it didn't house my laundry room I'd tear it down!! However, when I fixed it I put down storm gaurd which removes the issues you just listed. It is amazing stuff but stupid expensive for what it is.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
So this might be an option to get my 14BFF brake swap to work... Dually Rotors. It is about 2" deeper than the non dually option, still drum in hat park brake.
The spindles are different between the 2 styles of 14BFFs. The newer 89+ axle has a spindle which is 6-3/4" long and the older style 88 and below has 7-1/2" long spindle.. So it is up to finding the right rotor. So we shall see. I didn't have but a couple hours out in the shop over the weekend but I clearance my bed for the blazer tank. I have to clean it up with grinder and weld it up so it isn't weak. Started stripping down the passenger front side of the axle. The spindle and shaft came out nice and easy. Now I need that giant allen head to get the knuckle off. Also, my dana 60 brake swap brackets arrived!!

Oh also, the knuckle will come off with that upper king pin in place. You just have to remove the bottom plate/bearing assembly deal.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
More parts on order... Including a $30 allen wrench... So whats the best way to go for king pins? Brass, plastic? Where to buy for the best price w/ shipping?

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
The bottom plate just comes off after you take the four bolts off if I recall correctly. I think it's mad4wd that has the best deals on everything for the front. And if you're not aware those kingpins are usually a mother to get loose!

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4
So I have heard... Luckily I have torches. I bought the giant allen wrench though, its like 14" long, so hopefully that and a cheater bar will get it out...
I took the bolts out, put my chisel on it and smacked it with my mini sledge and it didn't budge one bit, I checked it over to see if I missed anything and found nothing. So maybe I wasn't beating hard enough?
