Need some help...

Guys, I'm usually a 67-72 body style guy and don't know anything about the 64 era body style other than the fact that I love them. LOL!! Anyway, I have a deal on the table for a 64 swb, big window that's an automatic and not 3-on-the-tree. Assuming it doesn't have any rust other than minimal or what should be expected for truck of it's age, what would it be worth? The details I've given you are what the seller is telling me. As far as physical proof, I haven't had time to lay eyes on the truck myself yet. The seller is telling me that the big window is rare in a 64 and that the automatic tranny is a factory option as Chevy only made approx 1500 of them and that it's original, not a conversion....there's no clutch pedal and it hasn't been restored. It's pretty much an all original truck. The motor in tranny isn't in the truck as it has been taken out because a restoration was going to be started on the truck of course. I know pics don't say much and I'm also aware of the many transformations that a truck can go thru in 50+ years. I'm just looking for some validity to what the proclamations are as far as rarity of the big window and auto tranny option. I know there are some well versed guys on here and this is the perfect place to ask. Thanks!!

Re: Need some help...

I'd take the grille guard if you bought it! Lol but if it's completely solid it would bring probably 3-4 all complete and running factory autos are definitely rare and the big window and. Automatic cab combo is a bit rare too. I've had almost 30 of these pickups and only 3 autos

LOL, the grill guard is the first thing that jumped out at me too. Pretty cool looking truck. Like the steps on the bed sides. Not sure if they were an option or just an aftermarket accessory but they are period cool.

Re: Need some help...

It's got the custom sail panels, the custom grill, and custom windshield trim, so with the big back window, this was clearly a highly optioned truck. The automatic could be original.

That being said, originality isn't something that people seem to pay much more for in these trucks, especially if the truck isn't running. It looks like it may have rot in the passenger side front quarter, and the tails of both bed sides.

Partially disassembled, potentially incomplete, unknown state of engine and transmission. Don't let your offer be affected by your desire for the truck -- the buyer will have a hard time getting much money for it from anyone else.

Re: Need some help...

The grill guards worth some money, there was tens of thousands of auto trucks, they made a few hundred thousand pickups and there is no numbers breakdown on options. That truck I would say between 2500 and 3500, looks pretty clean.

Re: Need some help...

Thanks so much guys. He's asking $4k for it. So, I'm pretty sure there has to be some wiggle room in there. I have a 68 as well that I was thinking about selling and buying this one. And yes, the grill guards will be gone immediately. He actually contacted me for a trade of a motorcycle that I have for sale on Craigslist and also on here in the non-auto classifieds section.
