What is this noise please?

It's probably accentuated due to zero carpets or sound recuction yet BUT I'd still like to eliminate it and make sure everything is tightened up and held together correctly. Just took a short 6 second video as I drove over a bump yesterday. Rattling noise coming (seemingly) from underneath truck and behind drivers seat.

Appears the movie wont upload!! so instead I'll have to try to describe it. Almost like a spring like sound - Da Da Da Da Da when I go over a bump. Very metallic, very "old truck' sounding.. will try again to upload movie or sound. Definitely a clank as opposed to a clunk.

No spare tire carrier - I'm thinking exhaust is a better bet as it sounds like a thinner metal noise not the solid clunk I would think the springs would give. My question is - SHOULD the exhaust be free to move or not? I really don't know - I can imagine some flexibility would be required though.

My exhaust tailpipe does rattle sometimes right at the bend (very close to the rear spring hanger). Mine sometimes rotates up and touches it......very noticeable and annoying!!

I had a noise that matches your description and it turned out to be a loose seat mounting bolt. Every time I went over a large bump the seat would bounce and make the floor pop.

Get under the vehicle with a rubber hammer and tap on everything to recreate the noise. It shouldn't be that hard to find. The exhaust system should not be free to move as it would be in a front drive car. Look for red rust powder around bolts and such which indicates movement.

SCORE!! Thank you for the advice on the rubber mallet. The noise is the rear brake cable link which is about an eight of an inch off the exhaust. When brake is not engaged the cable is of course looser and bounces up and down against the exhaust. The only thing I can do is to have the exhaust moved a bit higher but it's not worth that right now so I'll live with it for a wee while.

You probably will not have to move the exhaust. Just fabricate a guide like Chevy uses,(from 1/4 inch or so rod) with a hook to go in a hole in the frame and a loop for the e-brake cable to pass through. Make it just long enough to pull the cable away from the pipe.
