Retired Farmer Bill (RFB) buys a new '69 C10. RFB trades '69 for a new '72 C10. Dad buys the '69. RFB trades the '72 (w/28k miles) for something new in '84. Dad buys the '72. I get the '69 (just turned 16!). The '69 gets sold when I go off to college.

As Dad aged he no longer drove the '72 as it did not have power steering. So, in 1995, I bought it from him for $1200 with 42k miles. The first pic is pretty much what it looked liked from new to 2001. The second pic is from today with 52k miles and recently installed power steering .

Thanks. It hasn't seen much use over the last 10 years and has been in and out of a backyard garage during that time. It is showing some heavy paint oxidation.

It is currently going through some minor freshening up. With the addition of power steering, the plan is to put in back in service on a more frequent basis.

When I was 14 and had "C10 Fever" I would ride on a very long school bus ride everyday on the way home. I lived in the country so it was a very long way home. Anyways, one day I spotted a 72 SWB Cheyenne in the back yard of a house. Day after day i would sit in school, while my grades suffered and i would dream of the bus ride home seeing the pickup in the back yard. Well, one day the pickup was gone, i waited to see it again day after day at the house but it was gone for good. I felt horrible. A few weeks later on my way home from church, my mom and i spotted it. I told my dad and later that day we met the guy who was trying to flip it. Turns out I was a Custom Deluxe not a Cheyenne (we knew enough about the SPID then) we talked the guy down because he was trying to get the Cheyenne price, we got the Custom Deluxe price.

This is the day I snap pictures of the odometers. We track miles on the wife's car(s) for tax purposes. Last year I figured I would get pictures of all the odometers while I'm out there.

I put 98 miles on the '72 in 2016! About 70 or 80 of those were in the last two weeks. That will change in 2017.

I Bought my '68 C10 from the Grandson of the original owner (named Walter DeWayne "last name")...hence the inevitable name of the project. Last time Walter drove Walt was in 1984, the truck had literally been sitting in a "barn" since then. Move forward to 2014 and Grand Father died and grandson inherited the property and wasn't keen on ole Walt, so I scored him. I have the original bill of sale, books, pamphlets etc.

I had intentions of already having it up and running, but life got in the way for a few years. But now I intend on getting started on him in 2017.

I found my truck on Craigslist.
The first time I saw it there was an auction add: 69 Chevy 4x4, 34,800 original miles. My first thought was wow! I would love that truck, but could never afford it. I had a 69 K20 30 years ago. The add went away, and I kept dreaming as I searched craigslist for the right truck.
About 4 months later the truck was back up for sale, a small lot had it for sale, it was too much money, but such low original miles. A couple weeks later the price dropped. I had a good chunk of the cash, so I went to look at it. It was a Fire Truck / Maintenance Truck for some local small airports. The miles were original, you can tell, but the body was a little rough and there is some rust. I walked away... Talked to the wife on the phone, she said "you will never find another with that low of miles". I went back, made an offer and he said sold!
I still need to paint the bumpers and mirrors white, do some dent repairs, but I love it. It's hauled dirt, rock, firewood, furniture and goes great in the snow!!

I had been looking for a 67-72 chevy for years. Looked at a couple and almost got a 67 2wd short bed w/327 that was primed for paint and ran awesome. That deal fell through and about 5 years later I had almost but given up on my 67-72 dream. Then one day while driving home from a friends house I saw a k10 Cheyenne 1971 sitting in somones driveway. The town is small, 300 or so ppl so I had seen it driving around for years. The guy used it to pull a 20 ft landscape trailer for his business. He bought it from another guy who bought it from original owner so I guess I'm the 4th owner. It had lived its early days on a dairy pulling 5th wheel trailers. The original 350 that was in it I was told died around the half million mark(with who knows how many rebuilds). The guy I bought it from installed a 283ci from a 65 pickup. I almost got the original block but he ended up scrapping it before I could make it back to pick it up. I paid 1400.00 for the truck and have put a couple k more into it in small parts and tires. With a baby on the way it may end up being restored by the time she can drive it to highschool. Anyway heres a couple pictures ive taken since buying it summer of 2015

In 07 we found this '67. A farmer bought it new and at 35k, he quit dirving it. Nobody in his family wanted it . I had a '66 at the time so I upgraded to this '67. Just turned 75k. Just got a 2001 Dodge Ram Laramie from my brother to haul dead ash trees from our bottom land. What would be the value on this '67? Stick on column,straight six. The paint was faded so I had clear put on it, I know big mistake.

A young guy in the fire department had this truck. I offered him $1000 for it. He wanted $2000. I was just playing with him one night, I offered $1500, I bought it the next day. It had all cab corners, rocker panels & floor replaced. 95% of the body work was already done. 3 years later, here it is for sale again.

Found mine on ebay, but it was a listing that had already ended. The pictures were blurry and taken from far away and nobody bid on it. I sent him an email about it anyway and it was still for sale (almost a year after the listing). He still had it so I drove 13 hours to go get it!

Mine was also rescued from Craigslist. I have been off & on looking for a '67-'72 ever since a deal my dad & I had to buy a '70 GMC. I was 17 at the time & it was going to be a graduation gift, even though I went in half on it. Lol. The seller backed out the day after we agreed on a price. I had another mutt a decade later, but I didn't have much more experience fixing it up & sold it. It was a C10 with some GMC parts on it.

I bought the current truck the day after my birthday last year. I just decided to check CL on a whim & this model was one of the models I searched for. I saw the listing, sent an email, & didn't hear back until much later that evening. When the owner came out to show me the truck, I swear I knew her. We had worked at the same job a dozen years earlier. The price on the truck was reasonable in my opinion, & I at least tried to get it for less.

I wanted a spare vehicle for when my folks visit, and so we could take two vehicles for hunting season and leave my wife her subaru. Let's see ... what has 4x4, good ground clearance, cheap to work on, carries plenty of gear, and won't depreciate?

A 72 k10 longbed, that's what! Got it from a farmer in Dusty, WA that was using it as a weekend truck.

My story begins in 1987 when I was 16 years old. Looking for my first car with my dad. We came across a 1972 short step that was listed for sale as a 3/4 ton in the auto trader. Not knowing much about trucks I went with my dad to go have a look. Turned out to be a 1972 short step. Half ton 2wd, 350 auto with power brakes. Still manual steering. Originally light green. Engine was bad, cab corners and rockers had been brazed on and the passenger side door would fall off if you opened it. This was due to the top hinge being rotted off. $400 later I was driving it ten miles home, bad engine and all.
I spent the next few years driving it and installing every option you could have got in that truck. They were all over in the bone yards back then and acquiring cheap parts was easy. Good times!

My problem came after getting the 4wd bug. With a 1970 blazer for parts I converted my exelllent running 2wd into a 4X4. Believe it or not this could be done with swapping over all of the suspension brackets from the blazer. All of the holes are already in the 2wd frames. Drum brakes and a leaking front seal in the doner trans were the problems my truck inherited from the blazer. This stopped me from driving it daily after a few years. I sold it not long after that.

Fast forward to today,
I have always had a soft spot for that truck and regret making it a 4X4 and selling it. Sooo fifteen years ago when I purchased my home I saw a 1971 short step sitting on a dead end st. that parallels a highway I frequently travel. Had my eye on it ever since. This passed New Year's Day my daughter and I were burning time when I saw someone standing outside of the house where the truck was parked. Thought well here's my chance. Ended up speaking to the guys wife and found out he may be willing to part with it. Hmmm, waited for the guy to get home, shot the **** with him about it and make him an offer. To my surprise he agreed to send it home with me knowing that it was going to be getting put back on the road. Now I have the resources to build what I was trying to when I was sixteen without any money.

Already have the doner 2002 6liter 4l80e sitting here too...
