Trailing Arm Crossmember Modificaation - Pic included
So I am doing a slam on a 72 c-10, this is a low budget build, so I am not going to spend unnecessary money if possible.
I have steel, I have experience in welding, I just want your opinion. Why don't we cut the low part of the Trailing arm cross member flat and reinforce it with 1/4" flat bar? As I said, it is going to be slammed, so I don't think there as any reason I still need this part to hang so low. See red line where I want to cut and add the flat bar.

Isn't that the top area when it was originally installed?? Or do you guys remove it and flip it around and now the top is the new bottom??

Guys that lay frame using factory T/A x-members do usually 'flatten' (plate) the section that hangs below the frame as well as extend the top if running a 1pc d-shaft.
