70 GMC Sierra Classic (Longhorn)

Hello, I am new here and have been lurking, reading, and learning, all the while I have been dealing on a 70 GMC.
Well I just sealed the deal, and will go to Colorado to pick it up shortly.
I am super exited, and had to tell someone!
Here is a link to pictures the owner sent me.

Let me know what you think.

Love the engine overhaul sticker on the door - I can remember my dad used to put those self-stamping label things on everything! I see where I get it... Ha. Nice truck, looks pretty original.

Wow, that that looks like super clean original truck! Notice glove box sticker doesn't show power steering. My friend has a loaded '72 Sierra Grande that his FIL order new with power steering but the truck showed up on the lot with a manual box. Dealer had to install power steering before he took delivery.Enjoy your 'new' truck........

I just finished a four year frame-off on a 70 GMC Sierra Grande Longhorn 402. You might be able to make use of some of my build thread, so here's a link to it:

Re: 70 GMC Sierra Classic (Longhorn)

Welcome to the board.
Nice truck.
If you look at the thread about "if you could go back in time and order one of these, what would it be", you will see I listed almost that exact truck.

I spoke with the owner in depth several times, but never asked about PS.
The truck was ordered new by a drag racer, and used for many years hauling a race car.
It is possible he didn't order PS, I guess I'll find out when I get there.

I know this truck is quite rare, I don't plan to repaint or restore it, I want to preserve it since it is a survivor.
I have a friend who ordered a 72 Longhorn Chevy new, he still has it. It is optioned much like the GMC, but his has AC. He told me that his truck had a timing gear failure at around 70k, and he had to do some head work then. He wondered if that is why the GMC was overhauled at that mileage.
He is 75 years old now, and was a great resource in researching these trucks.
Along with this site.

Re: 70 GMC Sierra Classic (Longhorn)

We made it back from Colorado last night with the GMC.
There were a couple more dents than I could see in the PO's pictures.
It runs very smooth and drives nice, and is extremely solid for a 47 yr old truck.

I am a volunteer FF/EMT and also serve as our Sec./Tres.
We have about 35 members and serve a 47 Sq. mile district with a population of around 3000.
The Members bought the Hotsy, so wash privileges are one of our "benefits".
I have 2 sons who joined the Dept. also, one has moved on, but my youngest is very active.
How about you?
