It keeps changing

If I keep the steel floor I'm going to build a box (similar to what Keith did on Tiffany) to raise the floor and hold the air management. If I change to a wood floor I'm going to build a structure similar to what several on here have done. (Todd Shores, Josh Criswel, Rob Hartley etc)

I'm not going to reinvent the wheel, Just over here stealing ideas

The steel floor is easier, the wood floor is KILLER,!

In some ways, but selling it was the right thing to do. It has allowed me to focus on the Suburban which is what started all this craziness to begin with, .

How did you weld the pipe to the collectors? Did you grind some of the plating off the collector first? I'm getting ready to mock up my exhaust before body goes back on.

Jason,

Your collectors are not plated they are polished stainless.I bought a set of mild steel collectors and welded in the O2 bungs. If I would have made the exhaust out of stainless then I would have used the stainless collectors that came with the headers but I cheaped out. They were Summit part #sum-G4756 for the collecters and were $20. The O2 bungs were part # sum-G2990 and were $5 a piece.

Welding stainless to mild steel is tricky and I didn't want to attempt it.

Ok thanks for information. I plan on using stainless pipe so I should be fine. Wasn't sure I could weld on those collectors.

Exaust work came out great Mike. Have you used that eastwood chassis black before? Any decent?

My vote is if the paint is going to be original and kinda beat up, raised steel floor is the way to go. If the truck is eventually going to be painted, gapped perfectly and a show truck, wood floor for sure.

They both have their places but you know what they say about opinions.

I have been extremely happy with all of the Eastwood products I have used. I have used their Chassis black, under hood black (60% gloss), spray grey (cast iron look for steering boxes, spindles etc...) and alumablast for a cast aluminum look.

If I go with a wood bed floor it will be distressed wood. I have a good buddy who does woodworking for a hobby and he has a ton of reclaimed barn wood. I think some vintage barn wood would look great. I'm leaning towards keeping the steel floor but that is still subject to change

You are 100% right about a new bed wood kit not matching the style of my build. It just wouldn't look right.

Good call. I saw someone take a torch to the wood and burn the grain in before staining it. I tried it out on a small wood project and it came out nice.

I have had several people message me about part numbers and prices for my exhaust pieces. I try to keep track of everything I spend on my cars so I thought I would share. There are no kits for those of us with Porterbuilt equipped trucks so we have to figure it out on our own or pay an exhaust shop to custom bend what we need. I hate to farm anything out if it's at all possible so I always do everything myself good or bad. Here is my parts list minus the headers which were just eBay cheapo's. I hope this helps someone.

Disassembly of the green truck starts today. If anyone knows somebody who is looking for a pretty complete factory A/C set up please send them my way. I'm not interested in shipping so local pickup only. I'm not sure what's it even worth but I would like to get something for it all. I will take pictures of everything once I have it all removed. This is a big day for me, I didn't think it would ever come

Sunday was a long and productive day for me. I started pulling my truck apart in preparation to start swapping the cab and sheet metal over to my PB chassis. I didn't have one broken bolt and everything came apart very easy.

I was super happy that I didn't discover any hidden problems and the cab is as solid as I thought it was. The only issue I found was a small spot under the battery tray on the core support but that will be an easy fix.

Here I had just finished removing all of the factory A/C pieces. No rust on the firewall at all.



Well there is no turning back now



I also had my son build another dolly for my cab since he has his cab on our other one.



And the little kid in me had to see what the wheels will look like once this thing is finally together.



My plan for this week is to repair the core support and fix a few ugly areas from the factory then I'm going to smooth the firewall and weld up every hole that I don't plan to use. If I can keep staying busy I may just meet my goal of having it on the road by this summer some time.

Great progress. I know that photo of the fender over the wheel will be enough to keep the fire going on this build.

I keep the receipts but try not to look at them very often

The trick is to look @ the front of your receipts individually & look @ the back when viewing them all together
