Seat Restoration - Burlap and Wire

Anyone know the gauge of the wire in the burlap?
I have to completely replace mine.
Thanks

Re: Seat Restoration - Burlap and Wire

I use piano wire, sourced from a piano tuner. Call around, explain what you're doing.
I can't remember the gauge though.
If you have access to a dial caliper, just measure the thickness of it, and order a spool from a music shop or local piano tuner.

I rebuilt the seat in my Suburban that way--it's like riding a couch!
Use plastic clothes line for the perimeter hem of the burlap.

Re: Seat Restoration - Burlap and Wire

I have to travel tomorrow, but am going to my shop on Sunday. Give me a call on Sunday morning to remind me, and I'll grab my spool of wire and will get the diameter for you.

I measured mine at .040", about 18 AWG.
