Frame swap 63 Chevy to 65 GMC?
I have some really bad sections on my 65 GMC frame, but I want to save my GMC 4x4. I have access to a 63 Chevy frame (both were long beds).
Other than the changes due to the differing suspension and front axle, is there any show stopper differences between a 63 Chevy long frame and a 65 GMC long frame? Thanks. |

Re: Frame swap 63 Chevy to 65 GMC?
It sounds like the '63 frame is a 2wd? If so the 2wd frames are slightly different than the 4wd frames, but it is doable. The other thing is that your frame VIN will no longer match the cab VIN. That may or may not be an issue in your area. You might check into that before hand.

Re: Frame swap 63 Chevy to 65 GMC?
I don't know if anyone has come up with frame numbers on a GMC.re have been discussions on that.
he would better off with a GMC 2 wheel frame as it already has semi elliptics on the rear ron |

Thanks for the information, looks like I should look for a GMC frame or get prepared for some serious welding.

Re: Frame swap 63 Chevy to 65 GMC?
My buddy went the other way around. He liked the 63 cab and put it on his 65 frame and IIRC he had to modify the cap supports on the frame a bit but not a real big job.
