Shock bolts

I need to change my shocks. The bolts are old and rusty. Can I just get new grade8 hardware from the local hardware or are they special? My front shocks came with some sort of special bolt, but the rears just look like standard bolts. If I need to order something I would rather wait to take the old ones off. Thanks!

Re: Shock bolts

Mine had regular bolts for the shocks, not sure if they were original but they sure looked 45 years old!

Re: Shock bolts

off the shelf grade 8 bolts and nuts will be fine.if upper front shock stud gives you problems they can be purchased for around 4.00$...just picked some up from speedway motors for a project.....

Re: Shock bolts

I always buy Monroe shocks and they come with all the hardware. Especially the front one, that special bolt is always included.

Re: Shock bolts

Thanks for the help everyone. The shocks are KYB gas adjust. The front ones did come with some sort of special bolt.

Re: Shock bolts

I just installed the same shocks. Mine came with the upper bolts. For the front ones. The rear ones didn't have any. So I bought the grade 8 bolts.
