Cab repair suggestions

I just bought a 68 custom and this is the worst spot. I don't know how deep the damage goes but I do have the equipment to repair it. Before I start fabricating parts, I was wondering if they sell a replacement piece for the post of some sort? I plan on getting a new roof skin, drip rail, and inner panel to fix that corner. Unless I find a parts cab somewhere in the vicinity of SE Louisiana.

I'd be on the look out for a cab roof. I've seen em before at swap meets for a couple hundred bucks.

You need a whole cab since what you don't see as rust through at this point will spoil your whole day when after you do all of the repairs you see now and you drive over a railroad track and the sun visor and 10 pounds of rust lands in your lap. Pay the $25.00 for the premium membership and post a want to buy for a cab and it will be money well spent. Good luck and welcome aboard. Capt. Roger

Before you go tearing into that, inspect the cowl for rust. Usually when the roof is that bad, the cowl is toast as well. *IF* the cowl is OK, you're going to be money and time ahead by finding a donor roof like biketopia said.

ChaseBBC, I'm in the same boat as you.....Hows your passenger side look? Is it the same as the drivers side ? I have a patch panel for the drivers side, but am having trouble getting a patch panel for the passenger side. If your passenger side is good, maybe we can go in halves on a complete roof section and you take the left side, I take the right side ? I live not far from you in Prairieville / Gonzales, LA area.

How does that work with the vin # and title? cut the one I have out and weld on new cab or do I have to find a cab with a title? First option sounds kind of illegal but I know there a way of going about it.

Wade, that cab was in real bad shape. made mine look good! lol Saw a 69 in Ponchatoula and stopped, asked if it was for sale.....no luck. The search continues. I'll show you pics as soon as I get a min.

Just find a cab top that's in good shape. Tom K. from the parts board and others sell em and ship em. May find one closer, but then, Clip that baby off.
Down the a pillars and across the back.
I did one a 68 last year "Meet Homer" that had a hole in the roof and back of cab you could walk through. Donor and orig. cut off and donor tacked in place in one day. I also did not want to disturb the original vin tag, so I had to get creative to keep it in place.
Don't want to rub it in to you fellas in the rusty states, but I found my donor car with a good windshield for $100 here in Phoenix AZ.
Anyhow, take a look at how I "skinned that cat". Yours would probably be easier to cut across the back below the window.
