Horn delete

What would happen if I removed my horns from my 1969 c20? Would it affect anything electrically? They have never worked but were always wired in.

If you're just talking about removing the horns it wouldn't affect anything. But why not get the horn working instead? You might want to take a look at the horn relay and see if that's your problem. Or it could be the horn contact ring under the horn button - those tend to rust and then they don't make contact.

Some/most states will not allow you to get a tag w/o a safety inspection - and a horn is part of the list. If yours has never worked, then clearly you're fortunate enough to not live in one of those states, but for other folks' awareness...

The horn button provides the ground for the horn if I recall so an aftermarket or different wheel is a suspect.

The horn button is the ground for the horn relay. The horn relay provides a positive 12v to the horn, which is grounded to the sheet metal. So you are correct in that you need a good ground at the horn button in order for it to work.

Mine never worked but when I put in the forever sharp wheel and pulled out the Grant wheel, I found it easy to connect again. The PO also had the wire cut off for the horn at the firewall connector, so I rewired that.

Get real. A working horn is a safety feature. Could quite conceivably prevent an accident or injury.

It is fine, I cut the wire for my horn thinking it was the source of my issues.

I have straight pipes, my engine is louder then the horn ever was LOL

A horn is an important safety feature I believe I have never used in an emergency situation. That's probably because I am too focused on using my hands on equipment that gives the best chance of avoiding an accident rather than announce I am about to have one. I have only used the horn to let people know they pissed me off or for a friendly hello. I feel perfectly safe in a vehicle with a horn that doesn't work.

These days most people already know they are cutting you off or doing whatever they are doing to cause people to blow their horn. So, what's the point?

I just added two chevy pickup horns to my '63 Grand Prix, in addition to getting the production horns working. It sounds like a train now.

I can hardly wait for someone to pull out in front of me...

Safety features? Pretty sure my truck would not be road legal anywhere else lol - I got 1 wiper, no turn signals (I'm in Alberta/SK...Who uses em anyway?) No bumper, no muffler, no neutral safety switch, no reverse lights or horn. Up here they literally do not care (half of the vehicles are in just as bad if not worse lol). Also pretty sure my tie rod connects to my rack via a suspecious rubber band I have been too afraid to snip.

Pretty sure lack of horn is o.k unless you need to have it inspected for some reason

I don't really get why people are taking pride in not having the most basic safety feature going back to the 1920s, particularly when it's a one-green-wire hookup. Pretty hard to screw that up. If you can't get your horn to work, what does work?

At least trade your truck for a Dodge so it says on the front what to do when your hornless truck is hurtling towards someone...

Now that said I briefly did operate my old C10 without a horn because I used it to trigger the solenoid when the ignition switch burned out on me. But as soon as someone cut me off, I hit the horn and the starter made a horrific sound as it ground into the flywheel. So I can't cast the first stone, but... fix your horns please.

After only 49 years, the OEM horn on my Fremont-built '68 C/10 Stepside burned out. I tried to salvage one of the pair in my '67 Suburban ''project'' but they were duds, too.
Then I remembered I had 'souvenired' a klaxen out of a '70s Mercedes that had got blown up on some action flick I worked on long ago.
After converting some connectors and making a frame adapter from one of the '67's horn brackets, I had the MBZ horn under the hood. That nasal ''beeep!!'' instead of a deep GM sounding bark, is hilarious.
Maybe later I'll get a deeper low tone horn to harmonize with it and get a freight train effect.
For now it works.
