Jarvis, If you can find a complete donor truck that is a piece of cr&p, that would be the way to go, then you have everything you need and don't have to try and find the parts you need, they are getting harder and harder to find, and if not that, then a 4x4 frame is atleast a good start.....and yes these trucks are worth any money you put into them ,they are not money pits,to me they are such classics and deserve to be fixed up...I have owned my 72 since 2000, I have slowly been buying parts and fixing it up since..I just replaced the engine with a new crate engine..it was a K10 when I bought it and automatic, I have changed it to a 4spd and 3/4 ton axles with original big blue spicer hubs, I have all the new trim for it,,it is a cheyenne so has alot of trim....have all new interior for it, have had the seat redone...have the transmission out now, it was popping out of third gear, fixing it myself...will be getting estimates for paint soon...it is a work in progress for 17 years now, I had hoped to have it done a couple of years ago, but life gets in the way...I hope to have it done this year....havent kept track of how much I have invested into it, but don't care, I paid $900.00 for it and it is almost perfect body wise, had no engine or steering box or tailgate when I bought it....I have parts put away I bought over 10 years ago, and you are like me, you can do the work yourself so it really doesn't cost that much, I think I'll be into mine far less than alot of guys....

How much time and/or money do people spend just keeping their grass mowed? There are people all over this country happy driving their old stuff no matter what it cost. In the end, it's about enjoying driving them and that's what you get after you spend your money. And it is always such a gratifying experience seeing your project through and driving it on up the road.

Yup, you can stick a lot of money into an old one for the price of new one and have way more fun and satisfaction when you're done.

I always heard, "If it has (*)(*) or wheels it will give you trouble". I've had less trouble from the latter.
