1975 1/2 TOn Pickup
Is it unusual for a 1975 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton pick up to come with a 12 bolt rear end in it from the factory. Because my pick up has one and I was wondering if it would hold up against a 900 horse small block 350. Or would the torque from the 350 damage the 12 bolt? The 350 has been bored and stroker to 454 if that helps any.

ok yes its stock i have a 12bolt in my 79 but one thing its not going to handle 900hp and how in the hell didu make a 350 to a 454 i kinda think u are bull****ing cause i have a 350 bored .60 over with a 400 crank and its only 388 and as far as i know thats as big as u can go

I suppose theorhetically it's possible with enough overbore and some MAJOR stroke. Never heard of no 454 outa a 350, but 900 ponies and similar torque will bust a 12 bolt, gotta get a nice beefy aftermarket axle, i dont even think a big ole 14 bolt will hold 900 well under HEAVY loading.

10" tire classes use 10 bolts that can handle the power so a 12 bolt theoretically could also but the catch is applying enough power to effectively move the car w/o destroying parts or blowing the tires away. The way these cars move down the track is a science as well as an art form. Dave Henninger(sp?) use to campaign a 70 camaro w/fi small block then went to a 6cyl w/juice to take advantage of weight vs. power adder in that particular class & both combos utilized a 10 bolt & made similar power.

The 350 that I turned into a 454 was a custom made LS1 engine that has been selling for $3,600 I don't remember the exact bore and stroke but I will have to find it sometime.

First off your not going to get 454 cube out of a small block and spend under $4000. You can't bore the holes that big and find a crank with that big a swing that will clear the block. Even if you buy a World or Dart block. Second, unless your building a one run motor, 900 hp is only a dream. To build it, it's going to run well over $10,000. I built offshore BB motors in the 540+ cube size, I've done twin turbo SB, blown SB, and multi motor drag cars, so I think I know a bit about this. If your building a drag truck then you already know that a 12 bolt might handle it if you build it right, but why would you want to run a 12 bolt when you should be looking at a 9 inch Ford. If your building a street truck, and your question suggest your are, then lets stop dreaming and get back to reality, please. Sorry about being a bit harsh but I've been doing this stuff for almost 40 yrs. and I've seen this dream come and go a thousand times.
