The big orange monster goes on the dyno tomorrow
I'm going to be limited by injector size to maybe 1200hp tops, so I'm hoping for 1000hp. Actually I'll be pleased if it it makes 1000 lb-ft, which is what I'm really shooting for. Wish I had a set of big injectors on hand, but getting it idle nicely with 85# was a challenge already!
It's bolted up to the dyno and we run it tomorrow. Presuming I don't have an impeller in my forehead I'll come back and report how it went. Even one small cheap Chinese part fails (turbo, blow off, multiple bypass valves, etc) and the dyno session will be pointless, but we shall make the attempt nonetheless!

This should be interesting. Good luck with your #s and your Chinese turbos staying in tact.

Re: The big orange monster goes on the dyno tomorrow
I have no idea what I'll put it in - I've got another restoration I hope to be doing that is of a bone-stock L36 427 car, so it won't be that. Won't fit my blue GMC :-)
So it's really a dyno hero unless and until I find a nice Pro Street 1971 Monte Carlo SS that needs a motor. Those have huge front ends where this would likely fit!

Re: The big orange monster goes on the dyno tomorrow
Bah! The passenger side turbo hemorrhaged oil almost immediately, smoking the valley for mosquitos where the dyno is located. So I had to order a new turbo ($200!) and hope for the best.
I do have a bit of tilt to the turbos but I'd estimate it at 30 degrees.

Re: The big orange monster goes on the dyno tomorrow
It made 1200 lb-ft of torque by 2500rpm and held it for 1000hp!
The fuel pump on the dyno wasn't big/powerful enough and it couldn't maintain fuel pressure so we couldn't do any "hero" runs, this was all super-conservative. You could easily make 1500hp with it as it sat and maybe 2000hp if you optimised things (like had headers that weren't smaller than the exhaust ports, stuff like that!). The interesting thing to me was that this motor is rated at 500hp, and at 15psi it made 1000hp, which is exactly what you'd expect (one extra atmosphere doubled the power). Here's a link to the dyno video: https://youtu.be/IuprWd-WInM?t=20

Nice! Glad to hear that no major problems occurred and you were able to have a decent run.

Re: The big orange monster goes on the dyno tomorrow
It was actually pretty fun and rewarding... even just seeing it make ANY boost, I knew things were working, because for that to happen, your turbos have to work, the wastegates have to work, the bypass valve has to work... the boost controller has to work, and so on.
Any failure in any of those (cheap eBay) parts would have ruined it, but they all held together!
