my new shortie hedman elite headers didnt come with gaskets. instead the piping and the header collectors have fittings that sorta fit over each other. they attach to the collector plates with i think 3.5" bolts and there is about 2.5" of room between the flanges.

is this common place? i've never seen any headers like this before

Is it a donut gasket like the stock manifolds use? I know the thorley headers we put on our 97 burb used those kind of gasket.

my exhaust guy said it didnt use a gasket. the headers didnt come with collector gaskets either

I know nutin' bout Headmans product's.

Why don't you call the product support number im shure they can tell you what you will or will not need for a seal.

And the direction's don't say anything about this???

Just use ultra copper gasket maker. I have'nt had any problems with exhaust leaks until I tried copper gaskets about 2 weeks ago. Now putting the gasket maker on the gaskets!

What does the MFG. say to use???

May be a pic would help us so we can see what your working with.

those are the collectors. they seem to seal real well as long as the bolts are tight.

looks to me like they dont need a gasket. at least i have never seen one that would work for that.

I'm not sure what those are called over there but translated here they are called socket or knuckle joints, factory shorty headers have them too (like installed on Corvettes) and they do not need a gasket indeed, the socket and cup fit together and when tightened give a leak free seal.

Yea, that is the way they are supposed to be. I have seen that a lot of header manufacturers are starting to use that style on more of their products. Sure seems to be better than the old way.
