Carrier Break Question

The charts I read say that there's a carrier break at 4:10 down/ 4:56 up. My spid in my 85k20 says I have 4:11's. I'm wondering if those gears will work in my cucv axles with the 4:56 carriers?

Re: Carrier Break Question

Short answer will be no. First problem is that from the factory you should have a 10 bolt front and possibly a 9.5 semi float 14 bolt rear. The second issue is both the full float 14 bolt and Dana 60 have a carrier break at 4.10/4.11 and 4.56. Now would ideally be the time to re ratio them, but you are then looking at a bit of money for the bearings/carriers/gears/labor. Depending on the final combo you run, your CUCV axles may work just the way they are.

Re: Carrier Break Question

Is there something wrong with the 4.56 gears?

The difference between 4.11 and 4.56 is about 10% (which does NOT equate to 10% better gas mileage). Unless you're repairing something that is broken, I'm not sure I'd bother with the expense and hassle of swapping for a minor change like that.
