door removal

Can the doors on 60-66 be removed by just taking out the hinge pin and disconnecting the check link? I need to work on my door jambs and thought that would be the easiest way as I'm doing it by myself.
Thanks

Re: door removal

I don't think the hinges were made to be disassembled like that. Best just unbolt them from the door.

Re: door removal

Thanks Andyh. I got to thinking about that as well so I just unbolted the door and left the hinge attached to the body. Had to do a quick paint strip and primer as I only have today off and need my truck for work tomorrow. Door went back on without any issues and even installed a new check link.

One thing I heard recommended is before you remove the door drill a hole through the hinge flange (on the side you are removing) into the body or door near the center of the hinge flange.

Unbolt the hinge from the side you just drilled through and this will allow you to get close to the same fitment of the door has now by lining up the holes you just drilled.

Re: door removal

The above comment is on target. Drill a 1/8" hole right thru the hinges into the door pillar. When re-installing the door, use a 1/8" drill bit thru the hole to line it up. It'll be real close if not perfect.
