Just Surface Rust?
Been looking at a 72 Truck and haven't seen it in person but I have had the guy send me a lot of pictures. Looking at the pics, does it look mostly like surface rust or worse? Looks like floor pans were replaced but doesn't look right.

Re: Just Surface Rust?
He just screwed new floor boards over the old ones. You can see the rust holes in the floor below.

Wasn't sure about the remaining parts underneath the truck and also the drip rail/windshield area. Some looks like surface rust, other places looked deeper. Not wanting to replace a cab so if its to that point I'll definitely pass. |

Re: Just Surface Rust?
I can see at least one hole in the cab floor and yes, the floor patch panels. I'll bet you could find a better cab. I know of two places actually, one in KY and the other in MT.

Re: Just Surface Rust?
Agree with other comments but overall doesn't look that bad. That'd be a "rust free" example in Illinois! Cab mounts look good

Re: Just Surface Rust?
I wouldn't call that rust free
But it doesn't look like it will need a new cab As the years go by, there are fewer and fewer candidates out there Is it original paint? Original drive train? You didn't post pics of the rockers or cab corners What are they like? If they are decent, that is not a bad buy The seat cover looks to be Cheyenne? If it is a Cheyenne even more reason to buy it! Maybe more pics!! |

Re: Just Surface Rust?
There will be a few areas that need to be cut out and replaced, but overall looks to be a good cab.
I would look it over better in person, but it looks like something I would consider buying. The old seam sealer needs to be removed. You may have to fix/replace those very small pitted areas on top, but an area that small isn't bad. From the little I can see, I'd repair the cab roof and repaint it all white, fix the floor and roll. The blue looks to be fairly nice still.

Re: Just Surface Rust?
I know you cant see everything in the pics and im still waiting to get a few more pics. From what I understand, it needs a driveshaft and the linkage to the transmission and it should be able to drive. With that said, what is a good guestimate of what some of you guys would pay for the truck the way it currently sits? I know there are unknowns, but looking for some insight on price.

Re: Just Surface Rust?
From the pictures, the cab looks to be in pretty decent shape. Take the quick fix floor job out and do it right. While your at it, replace both rockers. It's your choice on the cut dash, fix or not. As long as you don't find a bunch of cobbled up body work, it's a nice ride.

I would say that truck is certainly 'retrievable' in that condition. Its not rust free but I have seen a boat load of trucks way worse than that....and they were not short/fleets. So it comes down to pricing in my opinion....and I think the numbers chevyland has referred to should be what you work from. My two bits. Coley

Re: Just Surface Rust?
Looks rough to me, if your gonna pay to have the rust fix it's gonna get expensive. If you can't inspect it in person don't buy it. You'll find more rust once you start poking around and tearing it apart. JMO, Nate
