1972 Chevy C10 pickup rear view mirror

Hello, can anyone show me a picture of an original rear view mirror for a 72 Chevy C10 pickup? I have two mirrors and not sure if either of them is the right one. Were they glued to the glass and did they have metal or plastic buttons? I would appreciate any help. Thanks to all.

Pretty sure the 72 is the only year that glued to the windshield. The rest screwed into the ceiling/roof.

I agree. 1972 was the first year with the mirror on the windshield. In 1969, the inside mirror was an option (at least on the 3/4 ton trucks). My loaded '69 was lacking that option. In 1972, I had one installed on the windshield by the Chevy dealer. Here's a picture of the one they installed. When I restored the truck, I bought a correct '69 mirror.

Not sure what you mean by "metal or plastic buttons", but the day/night lever at the bottom is gray plastic.

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 pickup rear view mirror

Hello dfwright, was the piece that you glued to the windshield metal or plastic? If it was a metal piece could you take a few more pics of the mirror in different angles and the back of the part that goes on the windshield? I hate to be a pain but I just want to be sure I have the correct mirror. Thanks dfwright, I sure do appreciate it.

Hello FirstOwner69, I was looking for the piece that is glued to the windshield to hang the mirror on in one of my catalogs and that is what they called it.....a button. I always called it the piece that stuck to the windshield...lol.

The piece that gets glued to the windshield is metal .

Hi Gary, the mirror that was on the windshield when I purchased my truck has a plastic hanger. Does that mean it's not the correct mirror?

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 pickup rear view mirror

It's probably newer or aftermarket. I've own about 4 72's and all were metal.

Mine also has a metal button. However, the button is probably irrelevant. It's not too unusual for the mirror to fall off the windshield due to poor adhesion, or, if the windshield was replaced, the new button could be metal or plastic.

An original mirror would be 10" wide, have "GUIDE GLARE-PROOF" stamped in the top center and have "MADE IN USA" stamped in the bottom center. The day/night lever would be located on the bottom between "MADE IN" and "USA".

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 pickup rear view mirror

Thanks Gary, now I know for sure the originals had a metal hanger. One out of the two I have has a metal hanger and it kind of looks like the one that dfwright sent me a picture of but I'm still not 100% sure mine it's correct, I would need to see more pics of dfwrights mirror. Thanks again Gary, George

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 pickup rear view mirror

FirstOwner69, well that just put an end to my questions. One of two mirrors I have is 10" wide, has a metal button but no markings. I don't know if it would be worth it to try and find an original or just use what I have and forget it. Decisions decisions......I'm wondering how much a good used original would go for. I guess I'll look around and see. Thanks FirstOwner, I appreciate it.

dfwright, I printed out the picture you sent me of the original mirror. It makes it so much easier when your looking for one and have a pic of the real thing. I thank you again sir, George

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 pickup rear view mirror

Here is a picture of what it says on top of my mirror. I highlighted it with white chalk so it's more visible. It is actually painted black along with the rest of the mirror. Since, as stated in my earlier post, the dealer added mine in 1972, I can't be 100% sure all 1972 mirrors had the printing, but it is consistent with the earlier stainless mirrors with the arm type mount.

Go to the parts board, scroll down till you see "MO specialtyretail", click on link(whatever it is), click his user name, click send message, and ask him if he has one. He will treat you good on price and ship it right to you if he has it, I've dealt with him many times.

I thought his name would be Mo but I guess I was wrong, he signed off as Fred. I hope he gets a nice one at a good price.

Oh, I guess I shouldn't of assumed his name was Mo until I knew for sure. After he signed off as Fred I sure knew then it wasn't Mo. I emailed him again a little while ago and apologized.
