Roll Pin Removal Trick?

Dumb question, is there a trick to removing the roll pin from the door hinge friction pad? Seems simple enough, just drive it out. I finally got mine to move, and I can drive it up or down, but only about one inch. Then it comes to an absolute dead stop. Have tried several times with identical results, driving it down or up, doesn't matter. One inch and stop. I swear, there are times this truck makes me feel like the village idiot.

Heh, I've found they refuse to come out so I'm mulling the question over for a few years. Then again, I didn't work up the ambition to make things red hot w/ the torch. The midpoint is soaking in vinegar or molasses.

After sifting through a gob of other threads, I finally got it out thanks to an old post by Bruce88. I was trying to drive the roll pin out with a long 1/4" carriage bolt, but the hole necks down to 3/16". No matter how I tried, I could not drive that 1/4" bolt through the 3/16" section of hinge hole! Rather odd design quirk...... I wonder why GM didn't use a 1/4" hole with a 1/4" pin, the way Bruce modified his?

...if you guys have had good luck drilling out hardened roll pins, then you are up on me....or using Cobalt drills. Hardened roll pins are often a disaster to drill out. If you 'hook them' with the drill then they risk spinning with it.
regardless.....I would find out why its binding.
Are you sure it isn't a 'blind' hole?....make sure there is a way out.
Any chance of drilling up to the pin on the exit side?

As to the rest of your post, maybe I didn't do a good job explaining myself in post #5 above. Nothing is binding, and it's not a blind hole.

The way the hinge is constructed, both ends of the roll pin hole are 1/4" I.D. The center section of that hole is 3/16" I.D., so you cannot drive a 1/4" drift all the way through from top to bottom, which is what I initially tried. I was finally able to drive the roll pin out using a smaller diameter drift (well, a bolt, actually).
