16" 8 lug steelie question

Quick 8 lug wheel question for you all - I know GM made a 6.5" width 16" wheel - but did Ford and Dodge?

Or, maybe a better way to ask the question - is there a way to visually differentiate a GM 8 lug steelie from a Ford/Dodge WITH the tire still on?

The ones I'm asking about specifically have a DOT(T) 16x6.5 stamp on them, but nothing else really stands out (at least by the seller's description).

Thanks!

Re: 16" 8 lug steelie question

Ford made both 6" and 7" wide. Iirc, Dodges were 6". Ford wheels will be marked with the Ford logo, and the 7s will be marked ACCURIDE 16X7 near the edge. Dodge wheels are marked with the pentastar. No GM wheels I've seen were marked GM.

Dodge has the biggest hub bore, then Ford, then GM. GM has 9/16" studs, so the others will likely need to be bored slightly.

Hope that helps.

Re: 16" 8 lug steelie question

thanks, appreciate the reply ratty. I thought I had some "original" 16x6s on my K20, but discovered they are indeed 16x6 Accurides(!) Clearly marked, just never noticed, but they are at least the correct size. Nothin wrong with that, just good to know. Anyway, am shopping around to complete a partial set of 16x6.5s I have that I may install instead to go to a slightly larger tire, and stumbled across the fact that I had Accurides. May just put a full set of 6.5 rims on it when the time comes for new tires. thanks again, good info.

Re: 16" 8 lug steelie question

The older Ford wheels can be identified by the larger/wider vent slots and the design of the raised areas between lug nut holes. I don't have any pictures or wheels to take pictures of. The Ford centers around the lug nuts look similar on earlier and later wheels. Dodge I'm not sure about. They seem to look like the GMs as I recall. Not too many old Dodge wheels around. If there is any difference, the GM slots are the narrowest.

Re: 16" 8 lug steelie question

got it. thanks Tim. I noticed the window difference when comparing the accurides to the GM 16x6.5s I have. Noticeable, but not very - but a good identification feature.
