Bumpers - LMC, or other aftermarket worth it?
My front bumper is split on one side, like it was caught on something while a previous owner was backing up. I suppose possibly it could be welded, but I thought getting a repop painted bumper from LMC might be a good alternative for not much money.
Then I read that they are very thin, which kinda defeats the purpose of a bumper. I'm worried it would look flimsy, and also the shape shown on their catalog doesn't look identical to my original one. Question: Are any of the aftermarket bumpers worthwhile, or should I just try to find a used original?

Original is always good. My chrome ones came from Top Banana and have held up very well and are plenty thick.

I got mine from Classic Parts of America and they aren't flimsy. Have held up well for 10 years!

Keep in mind, LMC manufactures nothing. Same reproduction imported bumpers every truck supplier sells. So if going that route, shop around for the best deal.

Good to know. They charge a $20 fee for oversized items on top of normal shipping so if I can find one locally that'd probably be best, but it sounds like shopping around and ordering one of these repops is a decent alternative. I was worried it would not be a suitable replacement.

Check your local body shops, got mine from a paint shop in town, nice and solid build.

Re: Bumpers - LMC, or other aftermarket worth it?
I've purchased many reproduction bumpers from the Truck Shop here in Orange, CA and have been very happy with the quality, fit, and finish. They sell Counterpart reproduction bumpers with triple plate chrome and 5-year guarantee.. Although they are not a show-car mirror finish, you couldn't find a used bumper and have it chrome plated for even a fraction of the price they sell for. These reproduction bumpers are definitely equal to or better than any new truck chrome finishes being produced today, by Chevy, Dodge, Ford, etc.

Re: Bumpers - LMC, or other aftermarket worth it?
It's good to read that there are good ones out there. The only one i have ever installed warped like a funhouse mirror when I torqued it down. I don't know where it was purchased as it came with a truck that a friend bought. Since then, I just figured that they are all pretty much the same.

Re: Bumpers - LMC, or other aftermarket worth it?
I might be making a trip down near Truck Shop in Orange, CA but it looks like they only have Chrome bumpers, not primer bumpers for painting. But, lots of other good stuff in their catalog. Thanks for that tip.
