LMC Dual Exhaust kit with Headers?

Hello all!

I am in the process of getting my dad's 72 longbed in running order to start driving to college next semester.

Last weekend I replaced the rag joint, and boy let me tell you was I happy that the steering column had bolts in it instead of studs! Made the whole process about ten times easier!

It currently has a 283 in it with stock manifolds and possibly the worst collector leak known to man! I have gone through the LMC truck catalog and put together a list of all the parts I need to put one of their dual exhaust kits on it.

My question is, can I run a set of headers with these kits or do I have to stay with the stock style manifolds? I'd really like to avoid the muffler shop if at all possible.

All comments are welcome, also I wouldn't be surprised if this question has already been answered before and if so, please direct me to that thread

This is my personal experience with mufflers and exhaust. If you do not have the truck-year-correct manifolds, the muffler pipes will not fit correctly (ask me how I know ). I cannot speak for headers, but I myself prefer stock muffler systems. I just had a set of Dynomax Super turbos installed, and I ran into this year-correct manifold issue. I hope your headers work for you, and welcome to the board!

Re: LMC Dual Exhaust kit with Headers?

I used the lmc dual kit on my k20.....stock ramhorn manifolds and turbo mufflers.

It fit very good...had to trim one pipe but all in all it was a good deal...saved some money over a muffler shop..plus I did it in my own shop and didn't have to haul it

Re: LMC Dual Exhaust kit with Headers?

Thanks for the info guys!

It's nice to come on here and talk to people who actually have a clue what they're doing. I called LMC truck to ask them about it and got two people who told me flat out they had no idea of what manifold/header I needed to install the kit. "If it doesn't say it somewhere on the catalog page, I can't be sure..."

I ended up ordering the kit and a set of stock manifolds, should be a smooth install hopefully.

Re: LMC Dual Exhaust kit with Headers?

I modified a square body heart throb exhaust to fit my 67 none of it hangs below the frame, its ran through the ece trailing arm c member.
The kit had down pipes to fit the manifolds they clamped onto the intermittent pipes and bolted to the manifold studs.
I trimmed the intermediate pipes to fit header collectors and when the from there. The tail pipes up over the axle were the
Pieces that needed the most work. But in the end it fit great and works well.
