Edelbrock/Carter AFB rebuild kit - need knowledge
As you may know from another thread here, I am climbing out of an ethanol storage mess. I found an ED 1406 carb rebuild kit on Ebay for less than $20 with free ship, and it appears that the same kit will work with a Carter AFB Comp Series carb (# looks like 98053 or similar - might be 960--). .
Will this kit work for both types? Any experience or recc regarding this particular kit by PERFORMANCE OVERSTOCK - they say: "We are the Largest Carburetor Distributor in the Nation! This is a Upgraded better than OEM CARBURETOR REBUILDING KIT For all EDELBROCK - - -will fit Carter Competition AFB's." Thanks for any insights.

Of course it works.
Edelbrock didn't design the carb. They bought the design from weber. Weber in turn bought it from carter who built the first ones. |

Thanks, geeezer. You are my best expert source for such info, thanks to this site.
After running/fixing Quadrajets on my Chevs/GMs for a long time, I am wading into new water because some POs replaced Quads with EDs, AFBs and even a Holley or two on these trucks. Thanks again.

Re: Edelbrock/Carter AFB rebuild kit - need knowledge
I used Carb Junkies kit on eBay. It came with a metal accent pump, since the plastic ones supposedly don't like new gas. And you can get kits with the floats. L the stuff was great quality, think mine was 40-45 with pump and floats.
They still have it https://m.ebay.com/itm/Edelbrock-AFB...74?_mwBanner=1

Re: Edelbrock/Carter AFB rebuild kit - need knowledge
I hope this is not a thread hijack, but where on the Edelbrock website does it say what jet, etc combo is recommended for a particular setup?? I have a 1405 or 1406, can't remember, it's the one with the manual choke, and built my motor a while ago. The only thing I found on their website said something like "to determine what combination of parts to use check your spark plugs and jet differently to become leaner or richer" or something to that affect. Was hoping they would have some sort of graph that showed what combo to use with specific engine specs.

Re: Edelbrock/Carter AFB rebuild kit - need knowledge
So I have an Edelbrock on my 350. I also have and old Carter sitting in storage. Luckily I have been able to run E-10 and have not rebuild the carb since new over 8 years ago.
Now when looking for gaskets and accel pumps I would be looking for kits that would be ethanol resistant. In my manual from Ebrock it says these things can be setup to run ethanol. The only mod I have done so far is replace the springs with the silver, or clear set and I have seen an improvement. Ebrock sent them to me free of charge to help out. They have excellent customer service. |

Re: Edelbrock/Carter AFB rebuild kit - need knowledge
Thanks all - good thoughts there. I ordered three kits - supposedly ready for ethanol - but may want to substitute in some components as noted above. Kits don't have floats - as far as i can tell from the shake/weight test, the current floats are tight/good.

Call the Edelbrock Tech Line and request a copy of the "Performer Series Carburetor Manual". They'll send you one free. The Carb Manual will have those graphs you're searching for.
