Brother's remote hood latch?

I'm wondering if any of you guys have tried the Brother's remote hood latch and if it works.

http://www.brotherstrucks.com/71-72-...tinfo/HLAC072/

My big concern is that when I pull my stock hood latch I still have to lift up on the hood. So how would that work if the remote is in the cab?

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

I would assume these work like modern hood latches: pull the cable inside the cab (unlocking the latch) and then push the handle under the hood, opening the hood.

I wouldn't mind having one myself!

So, has anyone tried this?

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

And why is it only good for 71 an 72? (according to the posted listing link)

Is the hood release that different on 69 and 70 models from 71/72?

I could understand that the 67-68 hood release might be different or not fit with the hand brake mount.

Well whatever the reason it seems that they have 3 different latches, one for 67-68 ( http://www.brotherstrucks.com/67-68-...tinfo/HLAC068/ ), one for 69-70 ( http://www.brotherstrucks.com/69-70-...tinfo/HLAC070/ ) and the first link for the 71-72.

I guess the hand release lever comes out to a different location to fit each specific grill.

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

I did the version at the bottom half of the link below. I bought the cables for about $5 each at the junkyard.

Works like a charm.

Bummer,,, I was hoping someone had used this product before and I could get a review. I don't think I want to be the test subject on this one.

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

Somebody has to be the first to buy it in order to be the first to review it. I am thinking about it.

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

Well I placed an order on halloween for the 69-70 model and it's backordered (indefinitely?).

Will advise if it ever shows up.

Just received an email that my order (from 10/31) has "shipped" today 12/5/17. However there is no update to their website's order status page nor a tracking number.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

I bought one from Brothers as well. Came with an instruction sheet with LMC truck on the top of it. I am assuming LMC is the one actually making these or having them made as they were on the LMC website first.

Yes LMC. I've got one installed, but not had the time to install the cable. Since I don't have the grill on my 70 GMC yet, I can use my fingers to release the lock. Looks like a good product.

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

I bought one off LMC because I was running billet inserts on the grille for my 68. I thought it was garbage, the pull latch was weak and broke on me. I ended up having to use vice grips for a while to pull on the cable. It worked but again the pull latch was weak, I got tired of dealing with it and didn’t want to mock something up on my own and ended up taking the billet inserts out so I could pop the hood the regular way. Just my experience with it

Ugh....that is not what I would call "encouraging."

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

I just installed the LMC unit and it took some fiddling with the hood pin that goes into the latch to get it to release properly. I am concerned that the cable seems a little thin and not robust enough but hopefully it lasts a while.
The latch portion is fine though.

This also forced me to adjust the hood so it pops up when the latch is released and it works great now!

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

As others have posted. I installed it and it felt like it was going to break. It took one person to push down on the hood, with another in the cab pulling the release without breaking anything. Off it came and I'll put the original back on. I don't need to cruise with a buddy just to open the hood. Pure garbage.

Re: Brother's remote hood latch?

some one will buy it put a better steel mesh cable on it and it will work fine. Its like any thing We as the guys that use it seen to be the ones that fix it and update it.Then LMC or other sellers will follow and steel the fix.
