Rust on lower leading edge of hood. How to approach?
I have some rust through on this section of the hood. The hood is in very good condition otherwise and the rust is only on this 'under lip'. What is the best approach for repairing this section less replacing the whole thing? Tks! ~JH |

Replace the hood. You are close to good sheet metal in your neck of the woods. You will be time and money ahead.

That's a common place for them to rust. I agree, find a replacement for a hundred or two.

I have the same issue on my 68 gmc but I have a piece of trim on the front edge that will help hide the new metal. Oh and if you don't care about the patina then yes getting a new hood is waaayyy easier. Hope this helps

Re: Rust on lower leading edge of hood. How to approach?
Short of finding a new hood, if you have access to a metal brake, welder and some 20ga sheet metal it would not be hard to reproduce that. However, if you value your time I'd do what others have suggested and replace the hood.

I agree. Replace the hood. I am an experienced collision and restoration tech and would repair it for my self but if you pay someone it will be more than a replacement hood just to get to the primer stage.
