Yet another in what will probably be a long, tiresome series of re-assembly questions regarding my 1971 Jimmy. Did GMCs not have the 350 V8 badge below the front running light that Blazers have? My truck's arrival day pictures show the GMC/Jimmy badge behind each front wheel well, but no engine size badge ahead of them. There is no sign of filled in holes, just nothing there. I checked some of the build threads on the forum but can't get a definitive answer for the GMCs. Every Blazer looks like it has them.

No sign of any "GMC Custom" badge holes on the glove compartment door either.

My 70 jimmy...bought from the original family has a 4 wheel drive emblem under the fender light and I have a cutom emblem on the lower right of the glove box

My 70 Jimmy has the 4wheel drive emblem under the front marker light as well. Nothing on the glovebox door.

71-72 4wd's didnt get the "4 wheel drive" emblems but had the engine displacement emblems instead (for Chevy). My original paint 72 k1500 GMC has no emblem below the marker lamp just like this Jimmy - I suspect that's the case for all 71-72 GMCs.

What's on your SPID - was the Jimmy CST equipped? EDIT: I see the custom emblem now.

Here's an original paint 72 example - no engine displacement emblem, it's a CST with "Custom" emblem on the door.

Checked my 70 Jimmy - it has the 4 wheel drive emblem under the front marker light, and the GMC Custom emblem on the glove box door.

Thanks guys, your observations apparently confirm an interesting variation between the Blazers and Jimmys that I didn't know before now. I wish I had asked 1st before buying new 350 V-8 badges but oh well. It would have been worse if I had the restoration shop drill my newly painted truck for them.

Here are some old pics of the SPID and the unbadged glove compartment door. My truck is indeed a CST. One of its great mysteries is that although the SPID says it is supposed to have a saddle interior, every interior part is parchment. Must have been assembled on a Monday.

GMC trucks have their quirks and there's a lot yet to clarify about how parts/colors were coordinated. Seen a GMC highlander? The glove box door was a fawn color. 71 saddle differs from 72 dark saddle but I dont have examples to share. Was your dash pad a fawn color or black?

The dash pad was MIA when I bought the truck. I am going with black to match the original black steering wheel. I wish this one could talk. It has a lot of Hickey stuff on it and must have been owned by a serious off-roader in TX or NM at one time.
