Helper/Overload Springs
72 C10 has a leaf spring on each side. Do I need them? From the looks of the rubber bump stops on them, they were needed before. If I lower it (coil springs), will these overload springs be in the way, or bottom out? It was my Dad’s truck, and he sometimes referred to it as being a heavy half. Do the springs verify that it is? Thanks

Re: Helper/Overload Springs
Don't know but this is to give your thread a bump..
My guess would be yes, you would have to remove that to lower it. I do know from the manual that one of the attaching bolts for the aux spring is on there torqued to 370 foot pounds. (photo attached page 4-4 of Service Manual) I only weigh a buck sixty five so even with a two foot cheater bar that one sounds worrying. |

Re: Helper/Overload Springs
From personal experience, the "half a leaf spring" overloads wont work with a lowered truck.

Thanks. Got them off. They were just about all my 1/4” ratchet could handle. ;=)

Re: Helper/Overload Springs
I did a 4 inch drop on rear and left the springs on, rides a bit harsh on the rear because they're always engaged with the trailing arms and I never carry anything in back. But I've left them because it's it sits perfect with 2 1/2 drop spindles on the front

Re: Helper/Overload Springs
Had to replace the bolts as had to cut them off when I sanded the frame
