engine and carb. updates

okay, i've checked everywhere for a vacuum leak, and i cant find one. the vacuum gauge stays at a steady 15. but the carb still doesnt want to work. the secondaries will open on the bottom butterflies, but the top ones will not open.

the truck runs really, REALLY strong when i get on the gas about halfway. it will pull really hard in first gear. i still only have about 380 miles on it, so i dont wanna take it to far no oil leaks or anything like that either.

later this week i'll be getting a temp. carb to use, a 800 edelbrock eps. while thats on, i'll ship my carb back to jegs and then order me a SpeedDemon 650cfm vacuum secondary and the neccasary fuel lines and fittings.

the electric fans work great too

What kind of carb? A Quadrajet style, or AFB? You will not be able to "see" the air valve above the secondary butterflies open.. Does it move freely by hand?

its gonna cost me about $160 for the new carb and all the fuel lines and AN fittings.

i'm sure i could get the qjet to run relaly good, but i dont wanna have to drill stuff out and mess with modifing it so much.

Is your cam THAT radical compared to low85's? I know his was in a 406 and that adds a bit of TQ, but shouldnt you be ok with your 2.73's for a little bit?

the gears will work fine for a while
here are the specs on the cam:

Intake valve gross lift/duration: .490"/290°
Exhaust valve gross lift/duration: .490"/297°
Intake valve duration @ .050": 235°
Exhaust valve duration @ .050": 240°
Rocker arm ratio: 1.5
Intake valve lobe centerline: 107°
Lobe separation: 112°

Eric,

no carb you buy will be a bolt on and drive situation. There is going to be tuning involved no matter what. If you don't know how to tune a carb of any kind, it's time to learn and quit spending money trying to find a carb that will work without it. It ain't going to happen.

but but but.....:p

i've tried everything with the carb besides taking it off and modding it. the idle mixture screws do nothing for it, every single vacuum port on the carb is full manifold vacuum, and the idle speed screw came to my house shipped with teh screw cross threaded.
