Dodge 8 lug wheels on a C20
The Chevy 2500 wheels are not showing up much around here but the Dodge 8 lug wheels are. Has anyone tried them on a C20?

Re: Dodge 8 lug wheels on a C20
I have tried both Ford and Dodge wheels on my C20. The bolt pattern was the same but Chevy has a smaller center. The down side for me anyway was holding up the wheel and getting the studs to center in the holes. I have drum brakes all around and the front drums have a raised section around the hub so the Chevy wheel will center itself without having to manipulate it.

Now were these steel or aluminum wheels?

Re: Dodge 8 lug wheels on a C20
I bought some Ford steel wheels, same thing. They worked fine, but are hub-centric, so had to manipulate them to get lug nuts on. Not a great big deal, but Chevy steel wheels are lug-centric and are easier for sure. Can’t comment on Dodge steel wheels or any aluminum wheels, no experience with them.

Re: Dodge 8 lug wheels on a C20
Here is what I have been able to find out. The late model Dodge aluminum wheels have a 4.822 center bore and the Chevy 2500 wheels are 4.606. Bolt pattern is the same. I would need to find a lug nut to fit the wheels with the correct thread for the 66. Making the Dodge wheels hub centric could be done with a ring spacer. I could easily machine those if needed.

Generally not carrying enough weight to NEED the hub centered. 8 lugs are more than enough for light duty. Use a long pry bar or stick under the tire to help lift onto the lugs.

Re: Dodge 8 lug wheels on a C20
I just stuck a whole set of '91 Dodge 4wd steel wheels on my M1008 since I couldn't keep air in the GM rims & tires. They're basically rollers since I don't have plans to leave them but they fit fine.
Keep in mind at some point Ford & GM changed from an SAE pattern to a Metric pattern so keep that in mind when shopping for rims. |
