6 lug to 5 lug ???

So i'm trying to find out the easiest way to go from 6 to 5 lug. I've been told I can drop in a 71 to 72 rear. I thought I could buy new axles but not exactly sure what to order. I have a stock 67 c-10 rear in truck now. Any help on which way to go would great!!!

Thanks!

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug ???

My dad and I spent a Saturday bolting in a rear end from a 1972 truck, the only difference is about an inch in width (I forgot which is shorter). Assuming you have trailing arm rear suspension the hardest part was freeing up the rusty bolts.

Speedway Motors (among others) sells and axle/brake drum kit for less than $400 to convert yours. Just know that 67-70e and 70l-72 have different length axles and housings.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug ???

I had a machine shop re drill my axles for 5 lug. I think they also had to machine down the hub a little. Was pretty reasonable.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug ???

I just replaced front 6 lug rotors to 5 lug rotors and replaced the rear axles to 5 lug, easy swap and not too expensive. I ordered everything from ECE.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug ???

If you haven't done so, you will need to convert to disk brakes up front. I would suggest getting spindles that will use your existing ball joints and tie rod ends. ECE has what you need. Rotors can be bought just about anywhere, 71-83 all use the same rotor.

I just bought a rear axle conversion kit that includes Axles, bearings, seals, wheel studs and brake drums from Summit for my 69. I went ahead and replaced the rear shoes, wheel cylinders and brake hardware also
