Manual tranny or automatic?
How many of you prefer a manual tranny and how many an auto? 5 spd all the way for me!

I like manual a lot better, but I haven't got the time nor the resources to switch the old TH350 over to a nice 6 speed..

Sorry' but in the truck I'll take the auto as long as it comes w/od. I've done the 4-spd floor shifter thing before & it was a pain in the a$$ w/the seats. I ran a muncie w/hurst super shifter 3 & had to use buckets which is ok as long as you only give one buddy a ride @ a time. Buttttttt, in the car, 6spd baby....because I love banging gears!

I love my 5 spd, the overdrive is great! The shifter is actually in a perfect position too! Way more fun than a slush box

automatics !
automatics are easyier to drive if you live in heavy populated areas.i changed my 3 on the tree to a turbo 350,this frees up a hand to do other things like holding my beverage,rubbing my girlfreinds knee,or for hand signals to drivers who cut you off !!!

I prefer a manual out on the highway, but considering the driving around town that the truck will do, I'll take an auto anytime.

I have an automatic in my truck and plan on keeping that way because I lack the resources to make a 6spd swap really work well (posi reengineered shift linkage and short through shifter.) In the end I would say truck =auto, sports cars =manual "because I love banging gears!"

everyone in my family drives my truck so I have to stick with the auto cos my cousin drives like idiot
but if I had the funds I would throw a 6spd in her in a heartbeat

I have a th-350 now that I am throwing away. My truck isn't going to be a daily driver so I'm going for the 4-spd. I love driving sticks, if you really like to drive then you want a stick. Autos are for people who aren't coordinated enough to figure out a clutch. I would have gottan my 98 F/S chevy in a stick, but I couldn't have gotten the Z-71 option, and I love my leather seats!!! Just my opinion...

Manual all the way! I just love that big 'ol 4 speed in my '71! Real trucks have 3 pedals.
For someone that likes manual gear boxes, I guess you could say I have bad luck as 5 of my 6 vehicles are automatic! If I had it my way, they would all have 4 speeds. Watch the movie "Two lane blacktop" and afterwards, tell me you wouldn't want that gear whine of an M-22!

I switched from a 3-speed manual to a TH350. Hands down the best upgrade I have done to date. My truck is my primary tow vehicle for my boat. Having a manual at the ramp is a large pain in the rear. It is also nice on those long pulls to not have to set my coffee down at every stop sign to take off again.
There is nothing wrong with what I had. I just built the truck to do what I need it to do.

I prefer the standard shift when it comes to trucks. I run the original 3 spd right now, but would love to swap it out for a 5 speed from a late 80's Chevy, just like Jesse did. Hey Jesse, did you ever get everything hooked up and running smooth?

I prefer automatics for in town.... I hate all the shifting. It wears you out. I like sticks on the highway though! Mine in my 72 is a TH350 but i know how to drive a stick from my parent's 2 99 Dodge 2500s.

Gotta have a stick!
EVERY slush-box I have owned/driven on a regular basis has made me WALK (except for the '72 burb because I have only owned it for two weeks) Once, I went with my sister's boyfriend fishing and we got way up in the mountains on a back road, and the POS slushbox took a dump. That was a LONG walk! I have had stuff go bad in a manual, but I have always been able to drive them back to town. Learning how to properly RPM shift has saved me some exercise. Number of autos that have made me walk: 7 Number of sticks that have made me walk: 0 Plus, I like to shift myself. Maybe I'm just a control freak.

Yeah, I got it hooked up finaly, shifts real nice. I like the overdrive. Seems like most prefer standards!

Like'em both, but auto's in the 72 Stepside. When it goes on the road, hopefully next week, it'll be the first AT that I've had for a daily driver since the 66 Chevy II I had in college. 16 years of driving foreign straight shifts with an old M@verick 3-speed thrown in as well.
