No left front park light.

I'm working on a 72 that has no left front park light.

I have what appears to be a ground problem.

The LF signal will work until I turn on the park lights.

The park lamp won't light, but has power, just not enough to light the lamp.

The same goes for the LF side marker. Power but not enough to light the lamp. It does blink with the park lights off and the blinker on.

Anybody run into this problem before.

I'm sure it's a ground, but can't figure out where. I hooked another steering column to the truck with a known good signal switch with no change in symptoms.

Re: No left front park light.

If I recall correctly, the housing of the parking lights is metal. If so, have you checked for corrosion and tight fit between the socket and housing? You may be able to diagnose this by twisting some copper wire around the base of the socket and twisting it tight making sure it's also contacting the housing.

You know Jim, I think the housing is the ground. I loosened and tightened the screws, but I didn't take the housing loose and clean the contact. I will try that tomorrow.

Thanks

BTW, are you out west beating the cold?

Re: No left front park light.

That's the whole point in the migration, right.

I'm just jealous.

Enjoy the weather.

Re: No left front park light.

This is a good thread for me. I too am having what appears to be grounding issues on the same lights on my '69. Frustrating. Everything appears to be corrosion free, and the pins of the socket are getting correct voltage for blinker and parking. However, the light is intermittent at best. Swapped bulbs, same conditions.

By the way, down here in SE Arizona, we are in the mid 60's. Loving the weather down here and the ability to be able to work the '69 when the time allows.

Re: No left front park light.

Update:

I replaced the complete park light housing with a unit off a parts truck and it works great.

The socket in the old housing apparently wasn't making ground.

I was getting power to the contacts in the socket.
