Re: Special 1946 project

Ok guys, after the discussion about the amount of holes I was walking by the workstation on my way to the shower. I decided to recount the holes in the pegboard, guess what? you guys were right there is 41 rows. I guess either my eyes are getting old or I cant count that high.

Re: Special 1946 project

I cant believe I counted them wrong 3 times. I went out and counted the holes in the old board and I had 41 holes in that one too. maybe I need an eye exam. It was well received on Christmas with the family including my father who doesn't really get the old car and gas station stuff. He worked on the assembly line in Belvidere for 35 years and doesn't really give a crap for old cars. I will take some pictures of the insides now that all the shelves are in and pretty much full.

Re: Special 1946 project

As I stated before I had 3 shelves in the station when I bought it and I found 8 more from a really nice guy in Kentucky that he sold me for a reasonable price. I ended up using all 11 by the time I was done. The shelves are kind of a pain to install because they bolt into angle irons that are welded to the rear of the cabinets. With my big head and hands there was a few not nice words floating through the house trying to get them installed. The shelves actually hold a fair amount of stuff and are very stabile when loaded. Sorry about the sideway pics it was the only way to get the full up and down shot.

Re: Special 1946 project

I havent ever understood the basement diners/ gas station stuff either but I sure can appreciate it well done, and yours is very well done!

thinking back, I remember seeing one of these mechanic stations on craigslist a couple years ago, I might have it bookmarked and screen shotted on my lappy which is in for service. I will look again!

Re: Special 1946 project

I have always loved the gas station stuff. I worked in a Mobil station back in high school and we had the Sinclair station at the end of our street when I was in grade school. The diner thing was just something I came up with to get a use out of the basement area. I really didn't want another living room or tv room. I wanted something funky that was usable and also gave me a place to buy for and display cool old stuff. At this point in my life it is the room in the house that I have any kind of control over. I did have a home office in one of the basement bedrooms when I lived by my self that I had more gas station stuff and also some cool old toys in, but I lost that to one of her kids a few years ago and then to her after he moved out. It was funny when I found this workstation I was trying to talk myself out of buying it because of the expense and work that I knew it was going to take to get it done and she was the one who convinced me that it would great as a back bar and fit the part much more that the cabinets and counter top that was there. So next I am looking for a vintage refrigerator for down there or I am going to use the coke machine my uncle gave me for a fridge (with major work). Like I said at the beginning of this thread I know this isn't a truck but I feel it is part of the history with our trucks and I felt that it should be saved for the future. I am positive that a majority of these have been thrown away, destroyed or left out somewhere to rot. I am also happy that I have a real use for it that wont cause any harm to its finished form.

You guys are funny. She actually was the one that convinced me to buy the thing to start with. She also was the one to decide where it was going to go. I probably wont have bought it without her prompting me to. I did end up with a new kitchen also
