Re: help with a draw.

That is the stock externally regulated alternator. That one should be a bolt in replacement for your stock one. And theoretically should fix the issue as long as your voltage regulator is good.

Re: help with a draw.

ok so I need a new alt or a new regulator then . I put the plug back in the alt . light back on the neg post and the cable. then removed reg plug ...so I'm guessing it's done. now is it best to delete it and get the new style alt or get a new regulator?

Re: help with a draw.

Go get a one wire alt. Wire it like the diagram and all should be good.

Re: help with a draw.

That plug looks pretty nasty. Check the white wire for 12 volts with the key on and the engine not running, then check it for no volts with the key off and the engine not running. If you don't get the 12 volts key on, then the alternator won't charge.

If you don't get the 12 volts then pull the plug off the external regulator and check the brown wire on the end of the plug for 12 volts with key on. If you get that then you have a problem with the regulator.

The blue wire in the alternator plug should have 12 volts all the time as long as the battery is connected.
