Tire advice please

So I finally got some 15 x 8 rally rims to replace the garbage that was on the truck when I bought it. I lowered the truck (1967) 2 inches in back and believe the front is stock height.

I like the "full wheel well" look, but don't want to have to worry about the tires rubbing. What size tires would you recommend? I would like to see some pics of trucks on 15 x 8 rims with the tire size listed.

Considering the possibility of smaller tires on the front, not sure how that would look with rallys. Opinions?

Attached is a pic of truck as it is now so you can see the ride height. Please try not to look at the wheels I have now, they will gone in a few days

Thanx much.

Re: Tire advice please

255/70 looks really good at that height on a 15x8 rally wheel.

Re: Tire advice please

If you want the same size all the way around - concur, 255/70/15 is a great choice.

Can't stop looking at those wheels....eek...

For a 15x8 I would go 275/60-15 every time...

Re: Tire advice please

Example: 255/70r15

255 = section width. Take that number and divide by 25.4 This will give you the width of the tire in inches. In this case, 10.03

Now, multiply the tire width by the aspect ratio. (Second number) "70" so we use .70. That just means the sidewall of the tire is "70%" of the width. So, 10.03 x .70 = 7.02" that's the height of the sidewall in inches. Of course you'll have two sidewalls, one at the top and one at the bottom. So..x2.

255χ25.4Χ.70x2+15 gives you the overall height of the tire in inches. 29.05" tall

Of course if it's say.. a 17" wheel you'd use 17 instead.

Try 275/60r15 and see what you get. Either would look great it just depends on what look you want for your truck. Lower and wider? Or more sidewall and not hardly as wide. Your truck, your decision.

Just changed over to rally wheels 15 x 8. Three inch beauty rings. GMC though. Tires are 265x75x15s. Going for more of stock look. Not dropped at all stock suspension.

Re: Tire advice please

thanx for the responses (great link!). I'm leaning towards 275/60 for the back and probably just a bit shorter on front (255/60?).

@ned - what a difference the rallys made for you, and mine are uglier than yours. I can't wait to see it with the new wheels.

Re: Tire advice please

I'm in the camp with the 255 70 15 guys. I think the 29" tire looks better than the 28" 275 60 15. I have a beater big block 71 GMC in my driveway right now with 225 70 15 fronts and 255 70 15's in the rear and would recommend that combo for a lowered truck.

The 255 70 15 all around would be great for a stock height front on a truck like yours.

Re: Tire advice please

I would take any of the advise above over the wheel/tire combo you have in the pic. I'm not sure how a large solid wheel with what amounts to a rubber band wrapped around it became popular but nearly anything would be an improvement.

lol....I was wondering when the 'donk' trend was going to come to the classic truck hobby.

Definitely not my thing....to each his own.

Re: Tire advice please

Finally got it finished. Took some time, had to grind off the spacers that were on for the big wheels. I could not be happier. Makes it look like a whole new truck.

I went with 275 60 15 tires. It ended up lowering it more than I anticipated, but I think it still looks ok.

Everybody likes pics, so...

Starting with the ugly before pic.

I have the beauty rings, haven't tried them yet.

thanx for the comments. I had a hard time deciding on white letters in or out, I figured it would look more "vintage muscle truck" with them out.
