Re: Crossbreed

The concept of cheap went out the window a long time ago. I don't have to pay someone else for labor so I don't mind dropping as much money on parts as it takes to get it how I want. I feel better about spending a couple hundred a month toward this project as apposed to a car payment on a newer vehicle that continuously depreciates. That's what I tell myself anyway lol.

Re: Crossbreed

Little more progress on the mount... Was trying to get it painted this evening but the significant other felt she needed more attention than the blazer.

Drivers side door repair around the upper hinge bracket... Going to spray the inside with raptor liner before the new skin goes on.

Re: Crossbreed

Passenger side will need fixed too but isn't quite as bad. As you can see, the internal metal support was cracked almost all the way around the j bracket.

Re: Crossbreed

I installed another 220v circuit in the garage this evening for a plasma cutter. I've been looking to buy a plasma cutter for a while now. I had planned to get the hypertherm powermax45 xp but I happened to stumble across an ebay deal on one of those chinese cut50 machines. Brand new for $125 which is about the cost of a consumable kit for the powermax45. Normally the cut50 is about $200 which is still really cheap. For $125 I expected to receive a paper weight but the damn thing actually works. I'm sure it doesn't cut as nice as the powermax45 but for now it does the job.. I'd like to set up a small cnc plasma sometime. When that day comes I may look at the powermax again but the cut50 will do fine cutting the rust out of the scout ii.

Re: Crossbreed

Started fabricating the exhaust.... I need some more practice with tig. I can join two pieces of metal but doesn't come out near as pretty as I'd like so I'm going to sand and polish out the welds.

Re: Crossbreed

Couldn't justify $500 for front seat foam so I decided to try to repair what I had.... Needs a little more work but this was my first crack at it...

Re: Crossbreed

Finished patching up the seat foam... The new foam felt a little more firm than the old stuff so I went ahead and patched both side bolsters so they feel even...

Re: Crossbreed

Wrangler led headlights.... Probably did this mod before starting the build thread but didn't think about it until it came up in the general forum.... Will regurgitate from that post just to have it in the build thread.

The aftermarket led Jeep headlights will not fit in the stock headlight buckets. I tried trimming the headlight buckets to make them fit but it was a lost cause...... No way to aim them properly after that. Not one to give up I decided to ditch the stock headlight buckets and picked up some aftermarket mounting rings that are made to mount the Wrangler headlights into a Harley. Had to drill a few holes in the core support and make some spacers but I got them mounted. They plugged in and worked fine with no special wiring or relays other than hooking up the halos.

Re: Crossbreed

Thanks for the support...

I installed some sound deadening inside the rear quarters today. Going to try to do the same for the inner bedside and get the put back in today.

Its crazy how much a difference it makes. Stops that ting and ring sound when you tap on the panels, makes more of a thud. Went around tapping all the panels in my other vehicles and you could easily tell where the factory used sound dampening. On my Sierra the doors were dampened but nothing in the fenders. My girlfriends kia seemed to have nothing anywhere and the old scout rang like a wind chime when you tapped anywhere on it.

Re: Crossbreed

More sound deadener and started putting the inner bedsides back in. No one will ever know it's there..... Unless they go tapping around and notice it sounds different.

Re: Crossbreed

Started putting the front clip back on today.... Wasn't quite ready for it but I'm getting ready to move so figured I'd start throwing it back together to prepare for transport. Doesn't look much different from the picture back in February but it did get some new door skins since then and some other minor tweaks. It's about to that point that I need to decide what color to paint it. Not much else to do other than paint and reassembly.

Re: Crossbreed

Resurrecting this build. Been busy with remodeling a house and haven't had time for it over the past year.

Not done with the house but needed a break so I started messing around with the tailgate.

Installed one of those assisted dampers from a 2014-19 truck. It wouldn't fit behind the hinge so I made a pocket in the side of the tailgate. Took a lot of tinkering but it works. Here is a 3 second clip of it in action. soft open tailgate

Next I'll be installing the torsion bar lift assist.
