Help identifying brake for drop spindles
Hey guys, I have a fiasco going on with trying to find out what brakes/suspension came on my chassis. I want to buy new calipers, rotors and pads but dont know what vehicle to search (figured out that they aren't 71-72's the hard way) I've researched some info on HD brakes but I'm still not sure. Drop spindles have no part number, calipers are stamped right delco moraine 5474 177 & left 5474176, rotors are century 615006 and say min thickness 1.215 in. Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated to wrap up the front end.

Re: Help identifying brake for drop spindles
Rotors for 72
Which are the same for 73-8 or so and then some trucks had thinner rotors, your rotors are 1.25 nominal If the caliper hose bolt is metric then caliper from 79 or newer, if American then use the caliper for a 72 which is the same until they went metric in approx 79 |

Re: Help identifying brake for drop spindles
Hey Curt, I Google searched the caliper casting's & came up with 73-87 C10...hope that helps. They also fit some Cadillac's & Checker Cabs.

This is the exact issue when you buy a kit. You have no idea what parts are from what.

Re: Help identifying brake for drop spindles
Yes it is! Bought this chassis supposedly rebuilt and we all know how that goes. Trying to piece it together now

Re: Help identifying brake for drop spindles
I think you can take the spindle into a auto parts store and have them pull the ball joints for the various year ranges ( only like two ranges- 71-72, 73-87 ) and see which fits properly into it. That should pinpoint which spindle you have. Then you can probably assume you need the HD rotor, bearings, calipers and pads for that year range.
That's what I did. I order brake parts for a 1976 chevy 1/2 ton to fit my '67 as a result. Hth, -klb
