Anyone have an intellitronix cluster? The smell...

So yesterday I connected power to my truck and fired it up for the first time, everything went well. I have an intellitronix cluster and it's been in the truck a few weeks, but yesterday was the first day it has seen power. So this cluster smells now after getting power, it works perfectly, but now my whole truck smells like radio shack (you know that smell). Anyone else experienced this, I know it sounds weird, just wanna see if it's normal for this brand, or if something odd is going on. Thanks

Does EVERYTHING work properly on the dash? Often that smell is the odor of the magic smoke. All electronics are powered by Magic Smoke.

Once you let the Magic Smoke out of a piece of electronics, however, it will smell and then no longer function. Usually the Magic Smoke is stored up in a capacitor and leaks out of that.

But if everything on the dash is still working properly then I'm stumped! It might have a bit of an odor, but not that capacitor/ozone smell I'm thinking of!

Don't worry, I have oldcans of magic smoke to refill it!

In all seriousness, it's not smoking, nor is it overheating, just smells.

Crawled up under the dash with the battery hooked up. Turns out the American Autowire horn relay (brand new) shiit itself already and was turning red hot and stinking up the place.

If anyone needs a 3 pin horn relay, AAW wants $9 + $10 for shipping, or you can get 2 for $10 on eBay, I went the eBay route.

Have you confirmed it the Intellitronix clustor or is it a instrument bezel and face that houses the cluster , there have been many studies on the issue of (Smelly Plastic) from china and none of them are good , recycled plastic and rubber have many carcinogens that expell from them. just google smelly plasic ....

It was the AAW horn relay, took it out, it was red hot and faulty from the factory. Had to buy a new one. Smell was gone this morning with the relay removed.

Good thing you didn't have a fire. What is AAW an acronym for?

Ya, they gave me a link to buy another from their website. I opened up the relay, it's making full contact all the time, no magnetic release. Chinese garbage.

I like AAW but that's not good customer service.
