81 K20 ball joints- Rock auto

I was looking at Rock Auto for Dana/Spicer front axle Ball joints

They have two upper/lower sets listed
Quote:
DANA 706116X {Click Info Button for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers} Ball Joint Kit; Spicer; Spicer Info
Front; Ford 8.5 Axle
Quote:
DANA DS706116 Contains 1 Upper Ball Joint and 1 Lower Ball Joint
4WD; For Diff: GM 8.5" Front; 28 Spline
Just curious... Does anyone know why one set says Ford?

Also do the Dana /spicer Ball Joints have zerk fitting? IIRC they do not

Are what Rock auto has listed the good Dana part number to get.

81 K20, 5.7 liter / scroll to suspension/ball joint ( took me awhile to find it)

Re: 81 K20 ball joints- Rock auto

cant go wrong with MOOG brand .

and ford ball joint setup is a tad big different then the gm system so thats why there listed that way i guess.

even if you do greasable lots of times you have to grease them and then plug the hole with the cap fitting since the axle yoke / u-joint section will hit the fitting .

still better than non-greasable tho . since every once and a wile you can grease them with a little bit of work . some do come with a off set fitting location to let you grease them with out this problem tho . but make sure you clock them correctly on install or you wont get to the fitting . clicking the info button on the MOOG upper it says fitting on the side to help grease it .

Re: 81 K20 ball joints- Rock auto

I understand , from what Ive heard over the years from old 4x4 mechanic shops, is the Dana parts are superior and wear longer.
Ive actually used moog alot and my experience is they get loose and wear out pretty fast
