Re: How deep can you go on stock rear end

I think he means how much offset you can run. We would need to know if it is a fleet or a stepside. Also is it a C or a K, lifted or dropped.

But I don’t think those wheels have enough backspacing to fit unless the truck is lifted. The tire will stick out past the bedside, I believe with a 20x10 you need 5.5 backspacing to keep it underneath the bedside. Also a 10” wheel can run like a 295 tire which would need widened wheel tubs.

There’s a lot of good threads on max tire/wheel size on here if you search.

Re: How deep can you go on stock rear end

I can only go by what I ended up doing on my 71 fleetside. I did a 22" X10.5 with 5.5 b.s. and a 305/tire on a stock width rearend. I feel that I pushed them out as far as I felt I could with any rubbing issues. so with that being said I think on a 10" wide wheel you would need at least a 5" b.s. to keep the wheel/tire safely inside the wheel well with no rubbing. but depends on how much if any you are lowered.

Narrow or wide rear end makes a BIG difference too.

Can you show me pictures of how your rear wheels look and pictures from the back of the truck

Would 20x12 with 5 backspace fit?

No that’s even worse. If you have a 12” wheel with 5” of backspace that leaves 7” of wheel outboard, between the hub and the bedside lip. As faastone points out 5” is the max a 1971-1972 can take. As Boog pointed out year makes a difference 1967-1970 have a rearend that is 3/4” narrower per side than 71-72, so those could take 5.5” of wheel between the hub and bedside lip.

Again really more detail is needed about your truck. If you search threads tons of people post their lift or drop, wheel and tire combo and a pic. Choose one that matches your stats and you like the look of.

5" backspace on my rear wheels

There is a little lip tacked to the wheel well. If I cut it out I think I'll be good
