1963 c10 rear control arms
I have a 1963 chevy c10, that will turn into a project in the next couple years. But for now I want to just drive the thing, but one of the rear control arms is broke in half. What would be the cheapest safe way to fix this so I can drive the truck? I want to keep it cheap because down the road I plan to fully update the suspension.

Here is a guy who split them in half and re-welded his, you may have to do something like this (albeit his isn't broken) to fix yours, just some ideas: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...ension.587532/

Re: 1963 c10 rear control arms
Thanks for the info. I had thought about welding them up, was just somewhat concerned of strength. But I do work at a machine shop so I could probably get one of the welders to do a "profesional" patch on it. I've tried just finding stock replacements for now, but no luck...at least not for cheap

Re: 1963 c10 rear control arms
Just a guess but your trailing arm likely broke due to rust in between the halves. This is a common problem. You might want to check the other side if you have not already. I have a couple sets of stock trailing arms. It depends on what you consider cheap, compared to the time involved in repairing your originals.

Re: 1963 c10 rear control arms
Buying a good set would be the lowest cost best solution. By the time you pay to have a set rebuilt that is badly rusted you will have more in it than a good used set.

I had a 63 with a 390 Hp 427 and I broke the right rear trailing arm. welded it back and added a heavy piece of angle . now I have dozens of extra ones.

Re: 1963 c10 rear control arms
Thanks for all the replies guys. I ended up picking up a small block for the truck over the weekend for a deal I couldn't pass up so the trailing arms are going to have to wait now for a little bit. I will probably just buy some decent ones brand new in the near future.
I do have one other question...I can not for the life of me figure out what transmission is in this truck...it's a 4 speed on the floor. I know my grandfather, who owned the truck for 25 years never did a trans swap in it, but I can't seem to find any info on a 4 speed being in this truck...any ideas? |

Re: 1963 c10 rear control arms
The trans will be a SM420.
