Transmission line fittings

I have a '72 C20 with a TH350 transmission. I bought it in pieces, so I never saw the transmission cooler lines connected. Both ends of both lines have flared ends and fittings. One of the flare fittings on the transmission end is screwed into a separate brass adapter with the same size threads and a flat end. Of the four ends, it's the only one and there are none in the bolt bags I received with the truck. Is the adapter supposed to be there? Should both lines have one? Should both lines have two? What is the adapter called and where do I get more? I tried threading them all in as-is, but the non-adapter line leaks from the transmission end. All appeared to tighten just fine.

Each port on the transmission should have a brass adapter 1/4 NPSM X whatever inverted flare. Just go to your local dealer and buy one or two if you are missing them. Part number 8637742, I just bought two myself last week. Cost about $7 each from GM.

I too just had my transmission rebuilt but these were not on the tirbo 400 so I found some. Are they supposed to have a brass washer between them and the transmission aluminum body or will they seal up when without the washers?

Man, none of the local parts houses had them. Napa said it was a special order item that would cost ten bucks plus UPS freight. O'Reilly's said they couldn't get it even though I read them the part number off their own website. I finally contacted the local hydraulics supply store and the carried them.

You can buy these at any GM dealership parts department. If they’re not in stock they can get them next day. If you don’t have a GM dealer close I think Jegs and summit sell them too.
